Vs. Susquehanna University - Lost 24-16 - Boxscore

The Susquehanna University women’s lacrosse team scored three straight goals midway through the first half while down a player to push ahead and eventually defeat host Moravian College, 24-16, in a Landmark Conference match on the HUB Quad Saturday afternoon to close out the 2009 regular season.

The Greyhounds scored first on a goal from junior attack Jillian Pagliei just 36 seconds into the match.  The teams would trade goals until the score was 5-5, and then Susquehanna went on its three-goal run and actually scored eight of the next nine goals.  The Crusaders had a 14-7 lead at halftime.  Susquehanna had a 48-37 advantage in shots and a 23-22 edge in ground balls while Moravian had a 22-19 edge in draw controls.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman led Moravian with five goals and two assists for seven points while Pagliei had three goals and two assists for five points.  Junior midfielder Katie Wise added three goals for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers netted two goals.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano, junior attack Paige Warbrick and freshman attack Heather Yawger each had goals for Moravian.  Freshman attack Allison Hess added an assist.

Wise led Moravian with five ground balls and three draw controls while Carman had four draw controls and three ground balls to finish the season with a school record 68 ground balls.  Warbrick added five draw controls for the Greyhounds while Helfers had three ground balls and three draw controls.  Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg made 19 saves in the contest.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Wright led Susquehanna with eight goals and two assists while freshman midfielder Erin Dyer added four goals and two assists.  Sophomore midfielder Sara Franckowiak had four goals and an assist while senior midfielder Cindy Wilson netted four goals for the Crusaders.  Senior midfielder Katelyn Deese added three goals and two assists while sophomore midfielder D.J. Jacobs had a goal and an assist.  Sophomore midfielder Kirsten Detwiler had three assists.

Freshman midfielder Maura Landino led Susquehanna with five ground balls and three draw controls while Deese had three ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Wright added five draw controls.  Senior goalie Meredith Tompeck had 15 saves for the Crusaders.

At Cedar Crest College - Won 14-4 - Boxscore

Moravian snapped a five-match losing streak and won its final road and non-conference match of the season, defeating Cedar Crest College 14-4.

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead on a goal from junior attack Jillian Pagliei midway through the first half and went on to hold an 8-0 halftime lead. The Falcons scored the first two goals of the second half before Moravian ran off five more goals for a 13-2 edge. The Greyhounds had a 37-15 advantage in shots, a 27-17 edge in ground balls and an 11-5 advantage in draw controls.

Junior midfielders Katie Wise and Paige Warbrick led Moravian with four goals each while sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman netted three goals. Pagliei had two goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers added a goal for the Greyhounds. Sophomore midfielder Angel Genther and freshman attack Allison Hess each had assists for Moravian.

Carman led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls to increase her single season school record total to 65 this spring and Moravian's only caused turnover. Carman was one of four Greyhounds to record two draw controls. Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg added nine saves and four ground balls in the match while Helfers and Wise each had three ground balls.

Tara Fikes netted two of Cedar Crest's four goals while Amanda Dombroski had a goal and an assist. Therisa Ault had the Falcons other goal. Kelly Oakes led Cedar Crest with six ground balls and a pair of draw controls while goalie Devin Ursini had 14 saves.

Vs. Goucher College - Lost 18-7 - Boxscore

Senior midfielder Jenny Lucey scored a match high five goals to lead the Goucher College women’s lacrosse team to an 18-7 Landmark Conference victory over host Moravian on the HUB Quad.

Moravian led 1-0 just 37 seconds into the match on a goal by senior attack Georgia Castellano only to see the Gophers score 11 of the next 12 goals to lead 11-4 at halftime.  Goucher finished the match with a 36-24 advantage in shots and a 22-18 edge in ground balls while the Greyhounds held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls.

Junior midfielder Katie Wise and junior attack Jillian Pagliei each had two goals for Moravian while Castellano had a goal and an assist.  Sophomore midfielders Sarah Carman and Maureen Helfers each had goals. 

Carman also led the Greyhounds with six draw controls and three ground balls, which gave her a school record 58 for the season, while Helfers had four draw controls and three ground balls.  Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg made 11 saves in the contest.

Lucey had four ground balls to go with her five goals for Goucher while sophomore midfielder Colleen Coleg contributed three goals and five assists.  Freshman attack Mary Lambert and senior midfielder Marlo Tersigni each had three goals and an assist for the Gophers while freshman defender Becca Smith tallied a goal and two assists.  Sophomore attack Cindy Villarreal, freshman attack Caroline Marris and freshman attack Andi Lipson each had goals.

Goucher senior goalie Brittany Foster contributed 11 saves in the match while Tersigni and Cole each had four draw controls.

At Alvernia University - Lost 18-16 - Boxscore

The Alvernia College women’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held off a second half rally from visiting Moravian to earn an 18-16 non-conference win.

The Crusaders scored the first five goals and led 6-1 before the Greyhounds netted three straight goals to pull within 6-4 with 16:50 to play in the first half.  Alvernia went into the intermission with a 10-6 lead and scored the first three goals of the second half for a 13-6 lead.  With the Crusaders holding a 15-7 lead with just over 25 minutes remaining, Moravian scored nine of the final 12 goals including pulling within two goals at 17-15 with 5:37 still on the clock.  Alvernia finished the match with a 36-30 edge in shots and a 22-14 advantage on draw controls while both teams had 12 ground balls.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman led Moravian in scoring with five goals and an assist while junior attack Jillian Pagliei added four goals and an assist.  Junior midfielder Paige Warbrick had two goals and two assists to tie the school record with 20 career assists while junior midfielder Katie Wise netted two goals for the Greyhounds.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers, senior attack Georgia Castellano and sophomore attack Shannon Algeo each had one goal for Moravian. 

Castellano led the Greyhounds with five draw controls while Wise had a team high three ground balls.  Carman added three draw controls and two ground balls.  Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had 11 saves in the match.

Felicia Sippel led Alvernia and all scorers with eight goals and an assist while Sarah George netted three goals and had three assists.  Heather Coppola and Samantha Landis each scored twice for the Crusaders while Jamie Murtha had one goal.  Tonya Rutt and Tara Walls each added an assist.

Alvernia goalie Jennifer Czarnecki also made 11 saves in the contest.

At Drew University - Lost 16-3 - Boxscore

The Drew University women’s lacrosse team posted a 16-3 Landmark Conference victory over visiting Moravian. The Rangers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 18 minutes before the Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with back to back goals.  Drew then scored nine straight goals including the final four of the first half to lead 9-2 at the intermission.  The Rangers had a 37-12 advantage in shots, a 27-24 edge in ground balls and a 15-7 advantage in draw controls in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman led Moravian with two goals and an assist while adding five ground balls, four caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls.  Junior midfielder Paige Warbrick scoring the Greyhounds’ other goal while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers led Moravian with six ground balls to go with two caused turnovers.

Greyhound junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had 12 saves and a pair of ground balls in the cage.  Drew used three goalies in the contest with Rachel Hanley making two saves for the win in 30 minutes of action.  Stef Rutkowski and Nicole Wezwick each had one save while splitting the second half for the Rangers.

Aileen Musynske and Cara Jeffries each had hat tricks to lead Drew in scoring while Stacie Brown added two goals and two assists.  Sloane Coles, Lyndsay Rossi and Brook Connell each found the back of the net twice while Emily Mastella and Samantha Silver each had a goal and an assist for the Rangers.  Rebecca Schild added an assist while Coles and Schild each had five draw controls.

Vs. The University of Scranton - Lost 15-5 - Boxscore

Senior attack Madelyn Sminkey netted five goals and added an assist to lead The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team to a 15-5 victory over host Moravian in a Landmark Conference match on the HUB Quad.

Sminkey scored two of the first four goals as the Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Scranton would hold a 9-2 edge at halftime and push the lead to ten on three different occasions in the second half.  The Royals had a 49-13 advantage in shots, a 26-22 edge in ground balls and a 14-8 advantage in draw controls in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman scored all five of Moravian’s goals to go with four ground balls and three draw controls.  Junior midfielder Katie Wise had a team high five ground balls. Greyhound junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg tied her career high with 22 saves in the match.

Senior attack/midfielder Erin Quinn and junior attack Kristen Marquino each had three goals and an assist for the Royals while sophomore defender Katie Slade and sophomore midfielder Kristen Pickell each notched two goals.  Freshman attack Kaela Mahon led Scranton with four ground balls while sophomore defender Liz Chase had a team high three caused turnovers.  Sminkey had a team leading six draw controls to go with her six points.

Junior goalie Cassie Murphy recorded three saves for the Royals.

At Gwynedd-Mercy College - Lost 16-15 - Boxscore

Victoria Geppert scored her only goal of the match with 1:22 remaining to lift Gwynedd-Mercy College to a 16-15 non-conference victory over visiting Moravian as the Greyhounds had rallied from a four-goal deficit to tie the match with five minutes remaining.

Moravian jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from junior attack Jillian Pagliei and sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman.  The Greyhounds led 3-1 before the Griffins scored six straight goals for a 7-3 lead.  Pagliei and Carman each scored in the final minute of the first half to pull Moravian within a goal at 10-9 at the intermission. 

Gwynedd-Mercy took an 11-9 lead early in the second half before the Greyhounds tied the match at 11-11 on goals from senior attack Georgia Castellano and junior midfielder Paige Warbrick.  The Griffins would build a 15-11 lead with 12:39 remaining before Moravian answered with four goals of its own.  Greyhound junior midfielder Katie Wise tied the match at 15-15 with five minutes remaining but Moravian was never able to regain the lead.  The Greyhounds had a 35-30 edge in shots and a 14-7 advantage in draw controls while both teams posted 35 ground balls.

Pagliei led Moravian with five goals while Carman had a team high six points with four goals and two assists.  Wise added two goals and an assist while Warbrick found the back of the cage twice for the Greyhounds.  Castellano had a goal and two assists while freshman attack Allison Hess scored once.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers led Moravian with seven ground balls to go with three draw controls while Wise had four ground balls and five draw controls.  Pagliei added five ground balls while Carman had three ground balls and three draw controls.  Warbrick contributed four ground balls.

Greyhound junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had six saves and four ground balls for Moravian as she became the first goalie in school history to reach 300 career saves.  Gwynedd-Mercy used a pair of goalies with Trisha Timony making seven saves in 33 minutes of action and Ashley McGinty adding five saves in the final 27 minutes.

Colleen Dellostretto led the Griffins in scoring with six goals and an assist while Kristie Pollock had three goals and three assists.  Kerri Boon contributed three goals and two assists while Bridget Gibson had two goals.  Geppert and Kristyn Varas each had goals for Gwynedd-Mercy with Geppert adding an assist while Shannon Carabbahad two assists.  Varas and Pam Moyer led the Griffins with six ground balls each.

Vs. Arcadia University - Won 15-10 - Boxscore

Junior midfielder Paige Warbrick scored a season high five goals to go with an assist including two goals in a decisive second half to lead Moravian to a 15-10 non-conference win over Arcadia University on the HUB Quad.

The Greyhounds, who have won five straight non-conference contests, scored first on Warbrick’s first goal of the match just 45 seconds into the contest.  The Knights answered with two goal from freshman midfielder Stephanie Holguin to take a 2-1 lead.  Moravian ran off three straight goals and led 5-3 when Arcadia scored three straight tallies to take a 6-5 lead on Holguin’s third goal of the match.  The Greyhounds scored the final two goals of the first half with junior attack Jillian Pagliei’s goal in the 24th minute giving Moravian a 7-6 halftime lead.

Arcadia scored two of the first three goals of the second half to tie the match at 8-8 with a little over 23 minutes remaining.  From that point, the Greyhounds scored seven of the final nine goals in the match for the victory.  Moravian had a 32-26 edge in shots, a 35-22 advantage in ground balls and a 17-10 edge in draw controls.

Warbrick had two ground balls to go with her six points while Pagliei had four goals including the game-winning tally and four draw controls.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano added two goals and an assist while sophomore attack Shannon Algeo, freshman attack Heather Yawger, sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman and junior midfielder Katie Wise all scored one goal.

Freshman attack Allison Hess added an assist for the Greyhounds while Carman had six ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers had a team high eight ground balls to go with two draw controls and two caused turnovers.  Wise had five ground balls and four draw controls for Moravian.

Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had ten saves including nine in the second half for the Greyhounds to go with three ground balls.  Freshman goalie Evelyn Ciaburri had 11 saves for Arcadia.

Holguin led the Knights with five goals and an assist while senior attack/midfielder Melanie Mark scored twice.  Senior attack Shannon Bustin had a goal and two assists for Arcadia while sophomore midfielder Jenni Groves and sophomore attack Kelsey Dobbins each had goals.  Senior attack Erin Cunningham had two assists for the Knights while Groves had three ground balls and five draw controls.

At The Catholic University of America - Lost 18-4 - Boxscore

The 13th-ranked The Catholic University of America posted an 18-4 victory over Moravian to open the 2009 Landmark Conference season and snap the Greyhounds’ four-match winning streak.

The Cardinals scored first on a goal from Kate Narzikul just 37 seconds into the game.  Moravian junior attack Jillian Pagliei tied the match about a minute later before Catholic scored three straight goals.  The Cardinals scored the final 11 goals of the first half to take a 15-2 lead at halftime.  Catholic then scored the first three goals of the second half.  The Cardinals had a 32-10 advantage in shots, a 44-24 edge in ground balls and a 13-4 advantage in draw controls.

Pagliei scored two goals for the Greyhounds while senior midfielder Katie Wise and freshman attack Allison Hess each scored goals.  Junior midfielder Paige Warbrick added an assist while returning from an injury for Moravian.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano had a team high five ground balls for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers had a pair of draw controls.

Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had seven saves and four ground balls.  Melissa Brashear had two saves in just over 46 minutes of action for the Cardinals while Gabby Sena and Caitlin Farley each had one save.

Kate Robinson led Catholic with five goals and three assists for eight points while Katie Buonpastore had two goals and a game high five assists.  Kelly Ryan added two goals and an assist while Laura Haring and Caroline Taltavull each had two goals.  Mary Swarthout added four assists to go with a team high six ground balls and four draw controls.  Sarah Lindell had one goal, three ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Cardinals.

At Bryn Mawr College - Won 9-8 - Boxscore

Junior attack Jillian Pagliei scored a match high four goals including three in the first half as Moravian built an early lead and held on for a 9-8 non-conference win at Bryn Mawr College for the Greyhounds fourth straight win.

Bryn Mawr scored first on an eight-meter shot by Katie Kellom.  Moravian would then score seven of the next eight goals to head into halftime with a 7-2 lead.  Bryn Mawr pulled within a goal at 7-6 just over ten minutes into the second half before Pagliei’s final goal and a tally from sophomore attack Shannon Algeo put the Greyhounds up 9-6 with just under 17 minutes remaining.  Bryn Mawr did close within a goal again but with just 15 seconds to play.  Moravian finished the match with a 25-24 edge in shots, a 29-26 advantage in ground balls and a 9-8 edge in draw controls.

Pagliei and sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers led Moravian with four points with Helfers netting two goals and adding two assists.  Freshman attack Allison Hess had a goal and two assists while sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman added a goal as did Algeo.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano and junior midfielder Katie Wise each had one assist. 

Wise led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls while Helfers had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Sophomore midfielder Angel Genther had three draw controls for Moravian while Castellano had four ground balls.

Sophomore goalie Courtney Rosenberg made 15 saves for the Greyhounds.  Bryn-Mawr keeper Miranda Gordon-Zigel had 11 saves in the match.

Georgia Lawrence, Gabrielle Marangell and Natalie Chrismer each had two goals for Bryn Mawr while Kellom and Liza Horowitz each netted on goal.  Caroline Heffernan and Evan Schneider each had assists.

Vs. Wilkes University - Won 15-9 - Boxscore

Junior midfielder/defender Katie Wise scored a career high five goals and added an assist to lead Moravian to a 15-9 non-conference win over Wilkes University on the HUB Quad.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman scored just 37 seconds into the match to give the Greyhounds a lead they would never relinquish.  Moravian led 7-1 with under three minutes to go in the first half when the Colonels scored twice to pull within 7-3 at halftime.  The Greyhounds scored two quick goals in the second half before Wilkes scored four goals in a row to cut Moravian’s lead to 9-7.  The Greyhounds responded by scoring six of the next seven goals to secure the team’s third straight win.

Moravian had a 40-38 edge in shots, although Wilkes held a 26-17 advantage in the second half.  The Greyhounds also had a 33-26 edge in ground balls while the Colonels had an 18-8 advantage in draw controls.

Wise had five ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers to go with her six points while senior attack Georgia Castellano added three goals and two assists for five points.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers netted three goals and had three ground balls for the Greyhounds while Carman has two goals and an assists with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore attack Shannon Algeo netted her first two goals of the season for Moravian while freshman attack Allison Hess had an assist.  Sophomore midfielder Angel Genther have five ground balls for the Greyhounds while junior midfielder Brittany Deiling had four ground balls.

Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had 16 saves for the Greyhounds.  Wilkes used two goalies with freshman Cassie Cronin making 11 saves in 42 and a half minutes of action and freshman Allie Zukuft adding four saves.

Sophomore midfielder Melissa Polchinski scored four goals to lead the Colonels while sophomore attack Brittney Hodnik added three goals and two assists.  Freshman midfielder Jordan Brown added two goals for Wilkes while sophomore attack Kat Edwards had three assists and four ground balls.  Freshman defender Amanda Moyer led the Colonels with eight draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Vs. King's College - Won 16-8 - Boxscore

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman scored a career high six goals to lead the Moravian College women’s lacrosse team to a 16-8 non-conference victory over King’s College on the HUB Quad Saturday afternoon in the Greyhounds’ first home match of the season.

Junior defender Katie Wise gave Moravian a quick 1-0 lead just 36 seconds into the match.  The Monarchs tied the contest on the first of four goals by sophomore midfielder Alicia Cox.  The Greyhounds then scored eight of the next nine goals to take control of the match, and Moravian had an 11-4 lead at halftime.  The Greyhounds held a 44-28 advantage in shots and a 29-18 edge in ground balls while both teams had 13 draw controls.

Carman had a team high seven ground balls to go with her six goals while junior attack Jillian Pagliei contributed four goals and an assist.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano added two goals for Moravian while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers had a goal and an assist.

Wise had four draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls to go with her goal while freshmen attacks Allison Hessand Nicole Benson each found the back of the cage once.  Sophomore attack Nicole Algeo had an assist for the Greyhounds while junior midfielder Brittany Deiling added four ground balls.

Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg posted 12 saves and four ground balls in the victory while senior goalie Chrissy Keenan had 22 saves and a pair of ground balls for King’s.

Cox had an assist, five draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to go with her four goals to lead the Monarchs.  Sophomore midfielder Sarah O’Doherty had two goals while sophomore midfielder Candice Russ added a goal, two assists and six ground balls.  Senior midfielder Christina Glenn had a goal for King’s while freshman attack Taylor Tyne added an assist.

At Chestnut Hill College - Won 15-14 (overtime) - Boxscore

Junior defender Katie Wise scored on an eight-meter shot with just one second remaining in overtime to lift Moravian to a 15-14 overtime win at NCAA Division II Chestnut Hill College for the Greyhounds first win of the season.

The Griffins scored the first goal of the match before Moravian ran of three straight goals.  The Greyhounds had a 6-5 lead at halftime, and Moravian netted the first three goals of the second half for a 9-5 lead.  Chestnut Hill answered with four goals to tie the match before the Greyhounds went up 12-10.  The Griffins tied the match at 13-13 on a goal by Katie Donovan while down a player with 1:41 to go in regulation.

In overtime, Sarah Possinger gave the Griffins a one-goal lead with 3:39 remaining.  Moravian tied the match with just 15 seconds to go on the sixth goal of the match by junior attack Jillian Pagliei.  On the ensuing draw, Wise grabbed the ball and raced towards the goal.  She was fouled with four seconds remaining to set up the eight-meter shot for the win.  The Greyhounds had a 45-40 advantage in shots, a 27-22 edge in ground balls and a 17-16 edge in draw controls.

Pagliei tied her career high with her six goals while junior midfielder Paige Warbrick had four goals and an assist for the Greyhounds.  Wise had one assist to go with her goal while senior attack Georgia Castellano, sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman and freshmen attacks Nicole Benson and Allison Hess found the back of the cage once for the Greyhounds.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers added an assist.

Carman had five ground balls, four draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers for Moravian while Wise had five ground balls, three caused turnovers and the last draw control.  Helfers added four draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.  Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg made nine saves in the victory to go with a team high eight ground balls.

Donvan and Maryanne Glass each scored five goals and had one assist for Chestnut Hill.  Carley Class added two goals and three assists for the Griffins while Possinger had two goals and two assists.  Griffin goalie Stephanie Jordan led Chestnut Hill with six ground balls to go with 15 saves.

At Wesley College - Lost 12-11 - Boxscore

Moravian rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 2:38 of the match to tie the contest but was unable to post its first win of the season, falling to Wesley College, 12-11, in a non-conference match.

The Wolverines scored the first two goals of the match before the Greyhounds tied the contest at 2-2.  The teams would trade goals the rest of the first half and head to the intermission tied at 4-4.  Moravian scored the first two goals of the second half to build a 6-4 lead on an extra-attacker goal by junior Jillian Pagliei with 24:16 to play.  The Greyhounds had a 9-8 lead after Pagliei’s fourth goal of the half with 12:17 remaining before Wesley scored three straight goals to take an 11-9 lead with 6:02 to play.

Moravian sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers scored with 2:38 to play while senior attack Georgia Castellano tied the match with 1:34 to go.  Wesley’s Leslie Cervenka netted her third goal of the contest with 35 seconds to play for the victory.  The Greyhounds had a 35-28 advantage in shots and a 13-12 edge in draw controls while the Wolverines held a 27-20 advantage in ground balls.

Pagliei led the Greyhounds with four goals and an assist while junior midfielder Paige Warbrick added three goals.  Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman added two goals and an assist to go with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Helfers and Castellano each scored goals.  Helfers had a team high four ground balls to go with two draw controls.  Junior defender Katie Wise added an assist for Moravian. 

Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg made ten saves for Moravian while sophomore midfielder Angel Genther and freshman attack Allison Hesseach had three draw controls.

Jade Martin led Wesley with three goals and two assists while Cervenka added three goals and one assist.  Stephanie Bailey and Katelyn Randes each scored two goals for the Wolverines while Alyssa Prudente had a goal and an assist.  Sheree Pleasanton netted one goal while Amanda Browning had an assist and a team high six ground balls.

Goalie Farryn Kauffman made 11 saves and three ground balls for Wesley while Brooke Bennett had a team leading three caused turnovers.  Brittany Novak added four ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.

At Muhlenberg College - Lost 20-4 - Boxscore

Amanda McGovern netted five goals and added two assists to lead the Muhlenberg College women's lacrosse team to a 20-4 non-conference victory over rival Muhlenberg College at Scotty Wood Stadium. McGovern netted the first goal of the contest just 2:32 into the game as the Mules scored the first six goals. Muhlenberg led 13-3 after 30 minutes and finished the match with a 31-17 advantage in shots, a 21-14 edge in ground balls and a 14-12 edge in draw controls.

Danielle Rosen added three goals and five assists for a team high eight points for Muhlenberg while Ruth Morronigello had three goals and an assist to go with a team leading six draw controls. Sara Hiller and Danielle Scarrone each had two goals and an assist for the Mules while Alyssa Bascelli, Angela Napoletano, Christine Van Hie, Kelsey Elmer and Sarah Hetrick all scored a goal. Allisyn Vachon had eight saves in just over 52 minutes of action for Muhlenberg while Dana Tedesco had one save in the final 7:46 of the match.

Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers led Moravian with two goals while junior defender Katie Wise and junior midfielder Paige Warbrick each netted goals. Wise also had a team high three draw controls for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Sarah Carmon had an assist. Sophomore defender Taylor Sperduto led Moravian with three ground balls. Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had six saves for the Greyhounds to become the school record holder with 218 career saves.

Vs. Swarthmore College at Haverford College in Tri-Co Invitational - Lost 13-5 - Boxscore

Amy Vachal scored four goals and an assist to lead the Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse team to a 13-5 non-conference victory over Moravian to begin the 2009 season at the Tri-Co Invitational hosted by Haverford College.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a free position goal by junior attack Jillian Pagliei ten minutes into the contest.  Swarthmore would score the next three goals before Moravian freshman attack Heather Yawger scored her first goal of her career.  The Garnet added three more goals before junior midfielder Paige Warbrick scored with 1:44 left in the first half to cut the lead to 6-3.

Swarthmore would score the first three goals of the second half to put the Garnet up 9-3 to take control of the match.  Swarthmore had a 35-24 advantage in shots and a 20-18 edge in ground balls.  The Garnet also had a 12-8 edge in draw controls in the match.

Yawger led Moravian with two goals while Pagliei, Warbrick and junior defender Katie Wise each scored once with Wise adding three ground balls.  Freshman attack Allison Hess had an assist in her first career match while sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had 16 saves in goal for the Greyhounds.  Allison Grein had 11 saves in the contest for Swarthmore.

Vachal had three ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers to go with her five points to lead Swarthmore.  Anna de Regt and Emily Evans each tallied three goals while Kelsey Hatzell had a goal and two assists to go with team highs of five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Marie Mutryn also netted two goals.
