2010 Preview

The Moravian College lacrosse team looks to continue improving going into the 2010 season, and is working towards reaching the Landmark Conference Tournament. Head coach Kate Miller is looking to return 16 letterwinners and ten are starters from last year’s 6-10 team. The program marked its first winning season in 2008 during the sixth year as a varsity sport.

Leading the Greyhounds into the 2010 season is senior attack Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North HS), who recorded 41 goals and six assists for a total of 47 points. Pagliei also scooped up 24 ground balls, 13 draw controls and four caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), pictured at right, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, contributed 38 goals and eight assists for a total of 46 points to go along with 37 draw controls, 21 caused turnovers, and a team leading 68 ground balls.

Senior midfielder Paige Warbrick (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area HS) put up 24 goals, five assists, 21 ground balls, 13 draw controls and six caused turnovers a year ago while senior midfielder Katie Wise (Ardsley, PA/Abington HS) added 24 goals, five assists, 58 ground balls, 35 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers.

Junior midfielder Maureen Helfers (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke HS) contributed 14 goals, four assists, 51 ground balls, 28 draw controls and 11 turnovers while sophomore attack Allison Hess (Harleysville, PA/Souderton HS) had five goals, seven assists, eight ground balls, and 14 draw controls.

Junior attack Shannon Algeo (Spring-Ford, PA/Spring-Ford HS) put up five goals, one assist and five ground balls while sophomore attack Heather Yawger (Morristown, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth HS) scored four goals and sophomore attack Nicole Benson (Petersburg, NJ/Ocean City HS) added two goals of her own.

Junior midfielder Angel Genther (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) picked up 24 ground balls, 21 draw controls and eight caused turnovers while senior defender Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional HS) grabbed 27 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Junior defender Taylor Sperduto (Morristown, NJ/Morristown-Beard HS) snagged 13 ground balls and five caused turnovers while junior defender Amanda Bron (Manville, NJ/Manville HS) picked up ten ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Emily Simpers (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial HS) scooped up two ground balls on the year while sophomore attack Lauren Gober (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus HS) recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover.

In goal for the Greyhounds will be senior Courtney Rosenberg (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional HS). Rosenberg, pictured at left, had a 13.85 goals against average to go along with 191 saves, 38 ground balls, and a 6-10 record.

Coach Miller is looking to take the Greyhounds to their first Landmark Conference playoff berth this season with the addition of a strong recruiting class. Moravian is scheduled to travel to Florida during Spring Break and will play one match on the trip.
