2003 Review

The 2003 Moravian Women’s Soccer Team posted a record of 12-4-4 with a 5-1-1 record in the conference. The Greyhounds appeared in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs this season after failing to make the playoffs last season. They fell to Lebanon Valley in the first round by a score of 1-0.

The Greyhounds received a bid in the ECAC Mid Atlantic Tournament for the first time in program history. The sixth-seeded Greyhound reached the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Finals where they lost to Carnegie Mellon by a score of 2-1. Fifth-year head coach Eric Lambinus had three players earn Commonwealth All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Megan Collins (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team. She led the team in scoring with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points. Junior Brianne DeVries (Stockton, NJ/Delaware Valley HS) added 6 goals and five assists for 17 points. Five out of her six goals were game winning. Sophomore Jessica Cordani (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) added three goals and three assists for nine points, while senior Justina Bria (Warminster, PA/William Tennent HS) contributed three goals and two assists for eight points. Bria was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team.

Freshman Christina Adams (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) added three goals and one assist for seven points. Senior Heather Bichler (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights HS) and sophomore Lindsay Pohl (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) each contributed six points. Bichler had two goals and two assists, while Pohl added one goal and four assists. Freshman Alisha Davy (Oaklyn, NJ/Haddon Township HS) contributed two goals and one assists for five points in her debut season.

Junior Kelly Haymaker (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) added one goal and two assists for four points while senior Jackie Buschta (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) added one goal and one assist for three points. Sophomore Erin Gonda (Bethlehem,PA/Salisbury) contributed two assists for two points and was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team. Rounding out the scoring was senior Rachel Davy (Oaklyn, NJ/Haddon Township HS) and sophomore Kindal Estes (New Providence, NJ/New Providence HS) each having one assist.

Also contributing for the Greyhounds were seniors Michelle Gorman (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy HS) and Nicole Sabaliauskas (Butler, NJ/Butler HS), junior Greer Hockenmeier (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery HS), sophomores Edna Snyder (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast HS) and Meghan Boccard (Huntington, NY/Huntington HS), freshmen Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) and Lindsay Pender (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby HS).

Junior Jill Vaccaro (South Salem, NY/John Jay HS) led the Hounds in the goal this season. She played 1,772 minutes with a 0.86 GAA, 105 saves, a 12-4-3 record and 9 shutouts. Senior Kelly Wakeman (Easton, PA/Easton HS) made six saves for the Greyhounds in her 110 minutes in goal this season.

Moravian had six student-athletes named to the 2003 Middle Atlantic Corporation Fall All-Academic Team including Bria, Haymaker, Rachel Davy, Snyder, Sabaliauskas and Wakeman.

Coach Lambinus expects to have 15 players return next season and with the postseason experience in the Commonwealth Conference and ECAC Tournaments, look for the Greyhounds to earn a second straight playoff appearance and challenge for their first NCAA Division III Tournament.
