2000 Review

The Moravian College women’s tennis team won its fourth Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in five seasons during the 2000 campaign and posted a record of 12-2 for the teams’ seven straight winning season.

Head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner was named the Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.  She has led Moravian to a 111-11 record the last seven years with the four MAC titles and four Commonwealth titles.

Sophomore Jen Genevese (Whitehall/Whitehall HS) led the team with a 10-3 singles record including a 9-1 mark in the MAC.  Genevese teamed up with junior Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) to post a 12-4 doubles mark, including a 3-1 slate in the MAC Individual Tournament that saw the duo reach the semifinals.  Kleinsmith, who was named to the All-MAC Team struggled in singles action in her first year at the top position with a 5-8 mark.

The Greyhounds had four single players win nine matches with season with sophomore Jill Simms (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) and junior Katie Copf (Allentown/Salisbury HS) losing just two matches and sophomore Christie Sieger (Emmaus/Emmaus HS) and junior Lacey Leverberg (East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg HS) each dropping three matches. 

Simms was 6-2 in doubles action with her sister junior Julie Simms (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) while Sieger and Leverberg combined for a 7-2 doubles record.  Sieger also had doubles success with sophomore Missy Graeff (Reading/Schuylkill Valley HS).  Graeff was undefeated in singles action, posting five wins.

Senior captains Courtney Rice (Nazareth/Nazareth HS) and Autumn Zander (Riegelsville/Bethlehem Catholic HS) posted a pair of wins in doubles action.  Rice also captured two matches in singles play while Zander had one singles triumph.
