The 2007-08 Moravian College women’s tennis team continued to dominate opponents as the Greyhounds made it to their 13th straight conference title match coming out with a 6-3 win over the University of Scranton in the 2008 Landmark Conference Championship match. The Greyhounds overall record was 10-6 under the direction of head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner, and the team was 6-0 in the inaugural Landmark Conference season.
Leading the Greyhounds was senior Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) who completed a 17-5 overall singles record and a 6-0 slate in Landmark Conference action as she earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team. Senior Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS), pictured at right, posted an overall singles record of 11-8 including a 4-2 conference record and was also named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team as a singles player.
Hopper teamed up with Junior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) to record a 7-6 doubles record as the duo earned Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades while Swan had a 4-11 overall singles record. Senior Brittany Popaca (Lavallette, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach HS), pictured at left, closed out the season with a 16-4 overall singles record while having a 6-0 conference record as well to be named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team. Popaca, who completed her career tied for second with 62 career victories, and senior Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) came together for doubles action and recorded an 8-5 slate to earn a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team while Yelito posted a 13-6 singles record of her own for a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team as a singles player.
Freshmen Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) completed her first collegiate season with an overall singles record of 15-7 including a 5-1 Landmark Conference record. McKinley was honored as the 2008 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. McKinley and junior MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional HS) had a 6-3 doubles record while Kelly contributed a 5-9 singles record on the season.
Freshmen Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) put up a singles record of 3-1 while sophomore Deanna Discepola (Millville, NJ/Millville HS) added a 1-1 singles record of her own. In other doubles action, Hopper and McKinley completed a 3-4 record while Kelly and Popaca had a 3-2 doubles record on the year.
Angstadt, Hopper, Swan, Yelito and Kelly were all named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Angstadt was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's College Division At-Large First Team for the second straight year, and was the 2008 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Tennis.
Coach Ketterman-Benner looks to return the majority of her players, and is looking to repeat as the Landmark Conference Champions next year.
