The Moravian College women’s tennis team for 2008-2009 had another unbelievable season as they clinched their second straight Landmark Conference Championship with an 8-1 victory over Goucher College. The Greyhounds finished the year with an overall record of 14-5 and a perfect Landmark Conference mark of 6-0 under the direction of head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner. Ketterman-Benner, who has a career mark of 237-89, led the team to their 15th straight appearance in the conference title match and their tenth Conference title.
Freshman Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS) posted an 18-2 overall singles mark, a conference record of 7-0, and a first singles mark of 14-2 and is now tied for third in the school record books for singles wins in a season. Fein, pictured at right, was named the 2009 Landmark Conference Player of the Year, as well as the 2009 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year for 2009 while earning a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team for singles.
Senior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) finished the season with a 9-10 overall record, a Landmark record of 7-0, a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team as a singles player, and a Blue and Grey Scholar Athlete award to finish her career tied at fourth with 40 career doubles victories in school history. Swan also teamed up with Fein in to finish the season with an overall doubles mark of 14-5 and a conference record of 6-1 earning them a spot as a tandem on the Landmark All-Conference First Team
Sophomore Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS), the 2008 Landmark Conference Player of the Year, finished the year with a 20-2 overall record in singles and a fourth singles mark of 18-1 that set a new single season victories school record earning her a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team.
Senior MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional HS) finished 13-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference with an 11-8 mark at third singles. Freshman Alexandra Hay (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) closed out the season with a record of 15-7 and a conference mark of 5-2 while freshman Anna Meola (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) posted a 7-2 mark with a 3-1 conference record.
Sophomore Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) was 3-1 in singles action while freshman Melissa Emery (Philipsburg, NJ/Notre Dame {PA} HS) was 1-0 in singles action. In doubles, Meola and Emery had a 9-9 mark while Emery was 2-1 with Hay in doubles action.
Swan, McKinley, Kelly and Endy each earned spots on the 20090 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Coach Ketterman-Benner looks to return the majority of her players next year and hopes to win the Landmark Conference title next year for the third year in a row.
