Another
year, another championship for the womens tennis team. For the
second consecutive season, the Lady Greyhounds captured the Middle Atlantic
Conference team championship while junior Lynne Grzywacz (Blue Bell/Wissahickon
HS) became Moravians first-ever MAC singles champion.
Grzywacz, playing first singles, posted the teams highest win
total with an 18-3 singles record and a 11-2 doubles mark. She was 9-0
in doubles with partner Jessie Coughlin (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic
HS). At second singles, Coughlin posted a perfect 16-0 record and
was 11-1 in doubles. Coughlin has completed three straight regular seasons
undefeated in singles play and holds a 48-2 career slate. Both of her
losses have come in the MAC Individual Championships.
Sophomore Marnie Heller (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) was
13-1 at fourth singles and 15-2 overall and 9-4 in doubles play including
7-3 with senior Alison Parpagene (Fredericksburg/Northern Lehigh HS).
Parpagene was 13-3 in singles. Senior Lisa Walton (Wall, NJ/Wall HS) finished
12-4 at fifth singles. Parpagene finished her career with a singles record
of 49-11 while Walton had a career slate of 29-8.
Junior Kate Rose (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham HS) had a 2-2 mark
in singles and a 5-5- doubles slate, 3-4 with Walton. The doubles teams
of Heller and Parpagene and Walton and Rose both competed in the MAC
Championships.
Freshman Autumn Zander (Reigelsville/Bethlehem Catholic HS) had
a 8-4 mark at sixth singles and 6-4 in doubles with classmate Courtney
Rice (Nazareth/Nazareth Area HS).
Coughlin was named to the MAC All-Academic team along with senior Heidi
Zwicker (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenham HS), juniors Liz Chamberlain
(Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central HS) and Lyn Ramsey (Perkasie/Pennridge
HS) and sophomore Julie Fanella (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert
HS).
