A
second straight undefeated regular season and a fourth straight trip
to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship match highlighted the
1999 season for the Moravian College womens tennis team under the
direction of head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner.
The Lady Greyhounds did have their string of three straight MAC Championships
stopped by the University of Scranton, 7-2, in the title match. The loss
to the Royals also ended Moravians 47-match winning streak. For
her efforts this season, Ketterman Benner was named the MAC Commonwealth
Conference Coach of the Year. Ketterman-Benner was also named the United
States Tennis Association/Middle States Coach of the Year.
Sophomore Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) completed
the 1999 regular season campaign with a 15-0 singles record, marking
the fifth consecutive season a Moravian player has had an undefeated
regular season in singles action. Jessie Coughlin, a 1999 graduate,
had done it the past for seasons. Kleinsmith, who played second singles,
completed the year at 16-1 in singles play and 11-5 in doubles action
with partner senior Marnie Heller (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS).
Kleinsmith and Heller, who played at first singles this fall, reached
the semifinals of the MAC Doubles Tournament before losing. The duo had
won the title in 1998. Heller, Moravians number one single player,
had a singles mark of 9-8 this season. Heller completed her Moravian
career with a 49-19 record in singles action.
Sophomore Katie Copf (Allentown/Salisbury HS) led Moravian in
singles wins with a 17-3 record including a 1-1 record in the MAC Singles
Tournament. Copf, who played fourth singles, also posted a 4-0 record
in doubles action. Two of Copfs doubles wins came with sophomore Lacey

season with the Lady Greyhounds while playing fifth singles. Leverberg
also played second doubles with freshman Jen Genevese (Whitehall/Whitehall
HS). Leverberg and Genevese were 8-5 in doubles play. Genevese, who
played third singles, added a 15-5 singles record in her first year at
Moravian and was 1-1 in the MAC Singles Tournament.

the majority of the season at sixth singles for Moravian and posted a
13-2 record. Zander teamed up with Leverberg to compete in the MAC Double
Tournament. Also competing in the MAC Double Tournament was the duo of
senior Lyn Ramsey (Perkasie/Pennridge HS) and junior Courtney
Rice (Nazareth/Nazareth HS). Ramsey and Rice, who played third doubles
during the regular season, were knocked out in the first round of the
MAC Doubles Tournament. During the season, the tandem was 13-4 and started
the season at 10-0 before losing at arch-rival Muhlenberg.
