At NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Millikin – Tied for 23rd of 72

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger earned All-America accolades for the eighth time in her career and the second time in two days as she placed fourth in the 1,500-meter final at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Outdoor National Championships hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL.  Wolfsberger, who had won the indoor national championship in the race back in March, ran a time of 4:36.07, just 0.55 of a second out of first place.  Junior Jennifer Lohn also competed for the Greyhounds on the final day of the National Championships.  Lohn placed 13th of 19 overall and fourth in her preliminary flight in the javelin with a toss of 126 feet, one inch (38.44 meters).  Moravian tied for 23rd of 72 schools scoring based on Wolfsberger's two fourth place finishes in the meet.

At NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Millikin – Tied for 24th after Day 2

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger earned All-America accolades for the seventh time in her career as she placed fourth in the 3,000-meter final at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Outdoor National Championships hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL.  Wolfsberger, who had the best time in the nation heading into the race, ran a time of 9:52.51, just under 13 seconds slower than her qualifying time at the Penn Relays.  Wolfsberger will compete in the 1,500-meter final on Saturday.  Junior Kim Jaick also competed in the 3,000 meters, placing 16th overall in a time of 10:15.94.  Jaick was ranked 15th heading into the race.  Moravian is currently tied for 24th of 46 schools with five points among have scored points.

At NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Millikin – No Team Score after Day 1

Junior Emily Shertzer placed 15th in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL.  Shertzer ran a time of 37:06.37 in the finals.  Also in first day competition, junior Heidi Wolfsberger won her heat of the 1,500 meter trials in a time of 4:37.01, the fastest time of the day.  Wolfsberger, who won the national championship in this event at the indoor meet, moves into the finals on Saturday. 

At Seamus McElligott Memorial Meet hosted by Haverford College – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds sent four athletes to the Seamus McElligott Memorial Meet at Haverford College to compete in a last chance meet to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championships.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.0 but did not improve on her NCAA Division III National Championships provisional qualifying time.  Wolfsberger is qualified in four events.  Junior Kim Jaick placed third in the 3,000 meters in 10:18.72 while junior Emily Shertzer was fourth in 10:23.79.  Jaick is a provisional qualifier in the race while Shertzer is an automatic qualifier in the 10,000 meters.  Junior Carrie McCaffery placed third in the javelin with a toss of 34.98 meters 34.98 meters (114'9").

At Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds sent three athletes to the Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet at Villanova University to compete in a last chance meet.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed ninth in her heat of the 1,500 meters but improved on her NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time with a race of 4:35.52.  Junior Jennifer Lohn, who has already qualified in the javelin, took third in the javelin with a toss of 38.80 meters (127'3").  Junior Carrie McCaffery was right behind Lohn in fourth place with a toss of 37.76 meters (123'11").

At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Messiah College – 1st of 11

The Greyhounds won their ninth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship with over a 100 point margin as Moravian won the 2001 MAC Meet at Messiah College over the host Falcons, 225 to 123.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger continued to lead the Greyhounds, earning two more individual titles on the second day of the championship, winning the 800 meters in 2:19.89 and capturing the 1,500 meters in 4:42.57.  Moravian had three other first place winners on day two with junior Emily Shertzer earning her second win of the meet, this one in the 5,000 meters in 18:43.89.  Junior Jennifer Lohn won the javelin with the a MAC record and NCAA Division III automatic qualifying distance of 134 feet, nine inches (41.08 meters).  Junior Sarah Shaneberger also won her second title of the meet, capturing the hammer throw with a MAC record toss of 125 feet, five inches (38.21 meters).  Other top ten finishers for the Greyhound included freshman Jaime Marks placing eighth in the 400 meters in 1:03.74, junior Amanda Samok taking second in the 800 meters in 2:24.50 and junior Jennifer Burkholder placing third in the 200 meters at 2:25.98.  Junior Erin Boyle was sixth in the 800 in 2:27.65 and junior Tiffany Catalino placing eighth in 2:34.01.  Junior Kim Jaick placed second in the 1,500 meters in 4:46.80 and Boyle taking third in 4:53.50.  Catalino placed sixth in the 1,500 meters in 5:10.17 and freshman Robin Edward placing eighth in 5:11.56.  Jaick also placed second in the 5,000 meters in 19:07.41.  Junior Steph Horne placed second in the 100 meter high hurdles in 16.26 seconds and she was also second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:05.87.  The Greyhounds 4x400-meter relay team of Samok, Marks, Burkholder and sophomore Ann Corless placed fifth in 4:12.57 while the 4x100-meter relay squad of Horne, Corless, senior Brooke Dancho and freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas placing seventh in 53.73.  Junior Carrie McCaffery placed second in the javelin in 120 feet, four inches (36.68 meters) and she was third in the hammer throw at 117 feet, nine inches (35.90 meters). 

At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Messiah College – 1st after first day 

Moravian had an outstanding first day in the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Messiah College with four champions in eight events.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 3,000 meters in 10:13.00 while junior Emily Shertzer captured the 10,000 meters in 39:57.35.  Senior Brooke Dancho won the heptathlon with a score of 2,614 points while junior Sarah Shaneberger was first in the shot put at 38 feet, four inches (11.68 meters).  Wolfsberger placed second in the 10,000 meters in 40:00.38 while junior Kim Jaick was second in the 3,000 meters in 10:31.06 and junior Erin Boyle placing third in 11:00.32.  Senior Kate Westermann was tenth in the 10,000 meters in 46:55.12 while Shaneberger was second in the discus at 119 feet, 10 inches (36.52 meters).  Junior Carrie McCaffery was third in the discus at 117 feet, 10 inches (35.92 meters) and third in the shot put at 35 feet, 9 1/4 inches (10.90 meters).  Freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas placed second in the heptathlon with 2,554 points while freshman Shannon McNeil was sixth at 2,178 points.  Senior Leah Williams placed tenth in the high jump at four feet, seven inches (1.40 meters).

At Lions' Invitational hosted by the College of New Jersey – No Team Scores

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed second in the 800 meters at the Lions' Invitational hosted by the College of New Jersey.  Wolfsberger ran a time of 2:17.44.  The Greyhounds 4x800-meter relay team of Wolfsberger, junior Erin Boyle, sophomore Ann Corless and freshman Robin Edward won in a time of 10:10.7.  Other top ten finishers in the running events were junior Kim Jaick placing eighth in the 3,00 meters in 10:34.5, junior Steph Horne taking fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.90 seconds and tenth in the 200 meters in 27.54 seconds, Boyle placing fifth in the 800 meters in 2:22.64 and junior Amanda Samok taking ninth in the 800 meters in 2:27.24.  Corless was tenth in the 400 meters in 1:05.72 while Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team of Horne, Corless, senior Brooke Dancho and freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas placed fourth in 53.45 seconds.  In the field events, Dancho placed eighth in the long jump at 4.71 meters while junior Sarah Shaneberger was fifth in the hammer throw at 37.72 meters and fourth in the shot put at 11.49 meters.  Junior Carrie McCaffery was eighth in the hammer throw at 34.47 meters and sixth in the javelin at 36.98 meters.  Sophomore Amanda Wynn placed sixth in the pole vault at 2.60 meters while junior Jennifer Lohn was sixth in the javelin at 34.76 meters.

At Penn Relays – No Team Scores

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed fourth in the 3,000 meters in a NCAA Division III season-best time of 9:39.62 at the 107th annual Penn Relays.  Wolfsberger's time was also a personal best as well as a Moravian record.  She ran a better time than 17 NCAA Division I runners in the race and was only ten seconds off the leader.  The Greyhounds 4x400-meter relay team of juniors Amanda Samok and Jen Burkholder, sophomore Ann Corless and freshman Jaime Marks placed 11th in the MAC race with a time of 4:16.34.  Freshman javelin thrower Christina Scherwin, who was throwing for the first time in the outdoor season, injured an ACL on her second warm-up throw and will miss the rest of the season. 

At Lafayette College Invitational – No Team Scores

00 meters in a NCAA Division III season-best time of 4:36.2 and she won the 800 meters in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 2:14.2 to lead the Greyhounds at the Lafayette College Invitational.  Wolfsberger’s qualifying time in the 800 meters was the fourth race she qualified for at the 2001 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.  Junior Kim Jaick placed third in the 1,500 meters in 4:44.4 and junior Erin Boyle was fourth at 4:51.7.  Other Moravian competitors in the 1,500 meters were junior Tiffany Catalino in 5:11.8 and freshman Lauren Laviola at 5:19.3.  Senior Kate Westermann ran a time of 21:37.0 in the 5,000 meters while freshman Jen Brief completed the race in 22:08.5.  Freshman Jaime Marks ran a time of 1:04.5 in the 400 meters while junior Steph Horne had a time of 16.34 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles.  Freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas ran an 18.13 in the 100-meter high hurdles.  In the field events for the Greyhounds, junior Carrie McCaffery placed sixth in the javelin at 38.36 meters (126 feet, 10 inches).  Freshman Lorain Sanderson had a leap of 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches) in the long jump while senior Brooke Dancho jumped 4.30 meters (14 feet, 1 ¼ inches), senior Leah Williams jumped 4.13 meters (13 feet, 6 ½ inches) and Sabaliauskas leaping 4.08 meters (13 feet, 4 ½ inches).

Hosts Greyhound Invitational – No Team Scores

Moravian hosted the annual Greyhound Invitational and had three student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships and the Greyhounds also had two individual winners.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger automatically qualified for her second race of the season and her third overall with a NCAA Division automatic qualifying time of 9:52.97 in the 3,000 meters.  Wolfsberger is also an automatic qualifier in the 1,500 meters and a provisional qualifier in the 10,000 meters.  Junior Kim Jaick turned in a personal best and provisional qualifying time of 10:10.05 in the 3,000 meters behind Wolfsberger while junior Emily Shertzer automatically qualified in the 10,000 meters with a time of 36:59.66 despite finishing third in the race.  In addition to Wolfsberger's win, junior Jennifer Lohn, a former NCAA participant, won the javelin with a throw of 38.30 meters (125 feet, eight inches).  Other top five finishers for Moravian were freshman Jaime Marks winning her heat of the 400 meters and placing fourth overall in 1:02.73 and junior Steph Horne taking fourth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.02 seconds.  Moravian's 4x800-meter relay team of Wolfsberger, Shertzer and juniors Erin Boyle and Amanda Samok was second in 10:02.9.  In the field events, junior Carrie McCaffery placed third in the discus at 32.90 meters (107 feet, 11 inches) and second in the javelin at 36.30 meters (119 feet, one inch) while junior Sarah Shaneberger was third in the shot put at 10.87 meters (35 feet, eight inches) and fifth in the hammer throw at 34.04 meters (111 feet, eight inches).  For complete women's results of the 2001 Greyhound Invitational, click here.

At University of Pennsylvania Invitational – No Team Scores

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger was the only Greyhound to compete at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational and she made the most of her performance, placing third in the 1,500 meters with a NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time of 4:36.99, the best time in Division III this spring. 

At Princeton University Invitational – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds sent several competitors to the Princeton University Invitational and junior Kim Jaick won the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:16.0 for Moravian.  Jaick's time was .76 of a second shy of the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.  Junior Emily Shertzer placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:21.1.  The steeplechase will be a championship event on the NCAA Division III level in 2002.  Shertzer was also 12th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:58.0 while junior Erin Boyle tied for eighth in the 1,500 meters at 4:57.0.  Junior Carrie McCaffery was fourth in the javelin at 36.52 meters while juniors Amanda Samok and Jen Burkholder competed in the 800 meters with times of 2:34.0 and 2:47.0 respectively.  Sophomore Ann Corless ran in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.79 while junior Steph Horne ran in the 100-meter high hurdles and ran a 16.54 second race.

At Muhlenberg College Invitational – No Team Scores (Defeated Muhlenberg 110-74 in Matte Award)

Moravian competed at the Muhlenberg College Invitational in the rain and had ten winners while defeating rival Muhlenberg, 110-74 in Matte Award scoring.  In the throwing events, Junior Sarah Shaneberger won the shot put with a Muhlenberg track record toss of 37 feet, 3 1/2 inches while junior Carrie McCaffery won the javelin with a track record throw of 120 feet, 11 inches.  McCaffery also won the discus at 121 feet, six inches.  In the running events, junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 1,500 meters by 27 seconds in a track record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 4:42.44.  Wolfsberger won the NCAA Division III National Championship in the 1,500 meters indoors this past March.  Freshman Jaime Marks captured first in the 400 meters in a track record time of 1:02.26 while junior Amanda Samok won the 800 meters in 2:26.18.  Junior Erin Boyle posted a first place finish in the 3,000 meters in 10:57.94 while classmate Steph Horne was first in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.29 seconds.  Moravian had two relay teams win, the 4x100-meter and the 4x800 meter.  The Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay squad placed third.  Horne placed second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and third in the 100 meters at 14.27 seconds while senior Kate Westermann was third in the 5,000 meters in 21:16.30 and freshman Jen Brief was fourth at 21:31.70.1.  Senior Brooke Dancho was fourth in the 200 meters at 28.94 seconds while sophomore Ann Corless was second in the 400 meters in 1:03.61 and junior Jen Burkholder was third in 1:04.25.  Moravian freshman Robin Edward was fourth in the 1,500 meters in 5:17.40 and freshman Lauren Laviola won the second heat of the 1,500 meters in 5:35.67.  Junior Tiffany Catalino placed third in the 3,000 meters in 11:20.97 while freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas was third in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.13 seconds and fourth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:15.34.  Freshman Shannon McNeil was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.53.  In the field events, senior Leah Williams placed third in the high jump at four feet, six inches while McCaffery was fourth in the shot put at 32 feet, 9 3/4 inches.

At Susquehanna University Quad Meet – 2nd of 4

The Greyhounds opened their 2001 outdoor season with a second place finish to Gettysburg College at the Susquehanna University Quad Meet.  The Greyhounds had several first place finishers in the meet including junior Heidi Wolfsberger, who won the 5,000 meters in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 17:32.61.  Other first place finishers for the Greyhounds included junior Erin Boyle in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:03.62, junior Kim Jaick in the 3,000 meters in 10:31.85, junior Carrie McCaffery in the javelin at 123 feet, two inches and junior Sarah Shaneberger winning the shot put at 35 feet, eight inches and capturing the discus at 115 feet, six inches.  Moravian had several other finishers in the top five.  Boyle was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:33.70 while McCaffery was second in the shot put at 34 feet, 4 ½ inches and third in the discus at 11 feet, six inches.  Junior Emily Shertzer placed second in both the 1,500 meters in 5:03.85 and the 3,000 meters in 10:36.65.  Junior Jamie Marks placed third in the 400 meters in 1:033.07 while junior Steph Horne was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.88.  Junior Jen Burkholder placed fifth in the 800 meters at 2:34.00 while junior Tiffany Catalino was fourth in the 3,000 meters in 11:27.70 and senior Kate Westermann was fourth in the 5,000 meters at 20:51.20.  The Greyhounds 4x400-meter relay team of Boyle, Marks, Burkholder and junior Amanda Samok placed second at 4:23.98 while the 4x100-meter relay team of Horne, senior Brooke Dancho, sophomore Ann Corless and freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas was fourth in 55.29.  In the field events, freshman Sarah Shatto was third in pole vault at seven feet, five inches.  Freshman Lorain Sanderson finished fifth in the triple jump at 31 feet, six inches.  Freshman Alicia Fowler was fourth in the discus at 101 feet, two inches and fifth in the shot put at 28 feet, two inches.  Junior Jennifer Lohn was second in the javelin at 113 feet, nine inches.

At NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships – Tied for 12th of 44

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the National Championship in the 1,500 meters in day two of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a NCAA Division III season-best time of 4:34.26.  Wolfsberger set a Kolf Sports Center record at Wisconsin-Oshkosh while winning by 2.71 seconds.  Last year, Wolfsberger placed second in the 1,500 meters indoors and outdoors and is now a six-time All-American for Moravian including twice in cross country.  Wolfsberger is also the second Moravian female athlete to win a national championship.  Freshman Christina Scherwin placed sixth in her preliminary flight of the shot out at 42 feet, 8 ¼ inches (13.01 meters), just three and a quarter inches (.08 meters) out of the finals.

At NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships – Tied for 19th after first day

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed first in her heat and first overall with a time of 4:36.19 in the preliminary race of the 1,500 meters and will compete in the championship race on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.  Wolfsberger also ran on Moravian's distance medley relay team with junior Erin Boyle, sophomore Jen Wagner and freshman Jamie Marks to a sixth place finish in a time of 12:06.52 to earn All-America status.

At Haverford Last Chance Meet – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds sent several competitors to the Haverford College Last Chance Meet in attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.  Freshman Christina Scherwin won the long jump at 5.36 meters but was short of the NCAA qualifying standard.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed third in the 800 meters in 2:18.3.  Wolfsberger is already qualified in the event but did not improve her time in the race.  Junior Erin Boyle placed fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:48.9 which is short of the NCAA qualifying time.  Freshman Jamie Marks competed in the 400 meters but also failed to qualify.

At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University – 1st of 10

For the sixth straight year, the Moravian College women’s track & field team has captured first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.  The Greyhounds defeated second place Messiah College, 182 to 81, in the competition hosted by Widener University.  Moravian had six individual champions and three relay squad win titles.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger, the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer for the second straight year, won the 800 meters in a MAC record time of 2:20.90 and she captured the 1,500 meters in a MAC record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 4:43.97.  Wolfsberger is already an automatic qualifier in the event.  Junior Emily Shertzer won the 5,000 meters with a MAC record time of 18:09.33.  Freshman Christina Scherwin won a pair of MAC titles in her first championship meet, capturing the shot put in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 42 feet, 10 ¾ inches and winning the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 9 ¾ inches.  Scherwin is already an automatic qualifier in the shot put.  Junior Carrie McCaffery won the 20-lb. weight throw with a toss of 41 feet, 7 ¼ inches.

Wolfsberger teamed up with sophomores Ann Corless and Jennifer Wagner and freshman Jaime Marks to win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:21.41.  Shertzer was part of Moravian’s winning distance medley relay team (12:47.3) with juniors Kim Jaick and Jen Boberg and sophomore Gina Lacombe.  The quartet of juniors Tiffany Catalino, Amanda Samok and Erin Boyle and freshman Lauren Laviola captured the MAC title in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 10:19.18.  For complete Moravian College results, click here.

At Keogh Invitational at Haverford – No Team Scores

Junior Heidi Wolfsberger improved on her NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time in the 1,500 meters and freshman Christina Scherwin tossed an automatic qualifying distance in the shot put to lead the Greyhounds at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College on Friday night.  Wolfsberger placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:35.6 while Scherwin won the shot put with a toss of 13.44 meters (44 feet, 1 ¼ inches).  Scherwin placed second in the long jump at 5.15 meters (16 feet, seven inches) while freshman Sarah Shatto won the pole vault competition at nine feet, six inches.

In the sprint races for the Greyhounds, junior Steph Horne was second in the 55-meter hurdles in a season best time of 9.0 seconds while freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas tied for ninth in 9.9 seconds.  Horne placed 15th in the 200 meters in 28.5 seconds while Sabaliauskas was 24th in 30.3 seconds.  Freshman Shannon McNeil was 23rd in the 200 meters in 30.1 seconds.  In the 400 meters, freshman Jamie Marks ran the best time of the year for the Greyhounds at 1:03.2 while sophomore Ann Corless was 12th in 1:04.9.  Junior Jen Burkholder was 14th in the 400 at 1:06.0.  Sophomore Jen Wagner tied for fifth in the 800 meters at 2:26.9 while junior Jen Boberg was 25th in 2:38.0.  Junior Erin Boyle was sixth in the 1,500 meters in 4:56.9 while Wagner was 11th in 5:06.2.  Junior Amanda Samok placed 15th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:11.2 while junior Tiffany Catalino was 18th in 5:15.8 and freshman Robin Edward was 19th with a time of 5:26.9.  Rounding out the Greyhound competitors in the 1,500 was freshman Jen Brief in 30th at 5:49.1.  Junior Emily Shertzer placed fourth in the 3,000 meters in 10:25.1 while junior Kim Jaick was  eighth with a time of 10:48.2 and senior Kate Westermann was 18th in 12:02.2.

 In the relay events, the Greyhounds 4x200-meter relay team of Horne, Sabaliauskas, Corless and senior Brooke Dancho placed second in 1:53.4.  The “A” team of the 4x400-meter relay was fourth in 4:15.5 while the “B” team was fifth in 4:28.0.  

Senior Leah Williams was fifth in the high jump at four feet, eight inches while  Dancho placed tenth with a height of four feet, six inches.  Dancho was fourth in the triple jump at 9.98 meters while freshman Lorain Sanderson was ninth at 9.45 meters and Williams was tenth with a leap of 9.39 meters.  Sanderson placed 12th in the long jump at 4.50 meters while McNeil was tenth at 4.53 meters.  Junior Sarah Shaneberger placed second to Scherwin in the shot put at 11.74 meters.

At Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational at Cornell – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had several winners at the Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational hosted by Cornell University with weekend.  Junior Emily Shertzer won the 5,000 meters in 18:07.90 while junior Heidi Wolfsberger captured first place in the mile run at 5:02.11.  Wolfsberger joined juniors Erin Boyle and Amanda Samok and sophomore Jennifer Wagner to win the 4x800-meter relay in 9:43.98.  Wagner won her heat of the 800 meters in 2:24.85 and Samok followed her in second at 2:26.05.  Boyle placed sixth in the 1,000 meters in a school record time of 3:06.06.  Junior Steph Horne was third in her heat of the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 9.83 seconds while freshman Nicole Sabalianskas was seventh in 11.04 seconds.  Horne ran the 60 meters in 8.65 and the 200 meters in 28.73 seconds while Sabalianskas ran a 9.47 in the 60 meters and 30.81 in the 200 meters.  Sophomore Ann Corless posted a 29.92 in the 200 meters while senior Brooke Dancho had a 28.19 in the 200 meters.  Corless ran the 500 meters in 1:23.65 while junior Jen Burkholder posted a 1:27.78 in the 500 meters, winning her heat.  Junior Kim Jaick was ninth in the mile run in 5:26.78 while freshman Robin Edward ran a 5:57.26 in the race.  Sophomore Regina Lacombe posted a 1:10.59 in the 400 meters for the Greyhounds.  Competing in the 800 meters for Moravian were junior Jen Boberg in a time of 2:36.01 and freshman Lauren Laviola with a time of 2:41.26.  Junior Tiffany Catalino had a time of 3:19.51 in the 1,000 meters and she joined Jaick, Shertzer and Boberg to run a 10:16.09 and place sixth in the 4x800-meter relay.  

Junior Sarah Shaneberger had her best toss of the season in the 20-lb. weight throw at 12.61 meters (41’5”) and she was eighth in the shot put at 11.49 meters (37’8 ½”).  Junior Carrie McCaffery had a throw of 12.18 meters (39’11 ½”) in the weight throw and a distance of 10.88 meters (35’8 ½”) in the shot put.  Freshman Alicia Fowler competed in the weight throw for the first time this season and had a toss of 10.90 meters (35’9 ¼”).  Dancho participated in the triple jump at placed seventh with a leap of 10.65 meters (34’11 ¼”).

At Dick DeShriver Invitational at ESU – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had five winners and set four meet records while competing at the 2nd Annual Dick DeShriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 800 meters in a meet record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 2:15.99.  Wolfsberger was also part of the “A” distance medley relay team with junior Erin Boyle, freshman Jaime Marks and sophomore Jennifer Wagner that won the DMR in a meet record time of 12:21.09.  Junior Kim Jaick captured first in the 1,000 meters in a record time of 3:08.07 and she won the 3,000 meters in another meet record time of 10:23.17.  Junior Emily Shertzer was third in the mile run at 5:24.48 and she anchored the “B” DMR team with a time of 12:56.18.  Joining Shertzer in the relay were juniors Amanda Samok and Tiffany Catalino and sophomore Ann Corless.  Moravian had a third DMR team of junior Jen Boberg, sophomore Gina Lacombe and freshmen Robin Edward and Jen Brief place sixth in 14:52.69. Junior Sarah Shaneberger won the shot put with a toss of 39 feet while junior Carrie McCaffery was fourth at 35 feet, nine inches.

In Greyhound Field Challenge – No Team Scores

Freshman Christina Scherwin had a good first home field meet for the Greyhounds as she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in the shot put with a first place toss of 12.96 meters and she also won the long jump at 5.00 meters.  Senior Brooke Dancho took third place in the long jump with a leap of 4.79 meters and she was third in the triple jump at 9.97 meters.  Junior Sarah Shaneberger placed third to Scherwin in the shot put at 11.52 meters and she was fourth in the women's weight throw at 12.05 meters.  Sophomore Brooke Dawson placed second in the women's high jump at four feet, four inches.  Freshman Shannon McNeil was sixth in the long jump at 4.39 meters.  Click here for complete results.

At Penn State University National Open – No Team Scores

Juniors Heidi Wolfsberger, Kim Jaick and Emily Shertzer helped the Greyhounds to an outstanding showing at the mainly NCAA Division I field of the Penn State University National Open, which featured over 1,600 student-athletes from around the country.  Wolfsberger won her heat and was eighth overall in the mile with a school record time and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard of 4:57.59.  Jaick placed 28th overall in the mile with a time of 5:19.42.  Shertzer placed 15th overall in the 5,000-meter unseeded race with a time of 18:27.93.  Wolfsberger and Jaick teamed with junior Erin Boyle and freshman Jaime Marks to set a school record and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in the distance medley relay of 12:07.45.  The quartet won their heat and placed 8th overall in the race and became the first NCAA Division III team to qualify for the national championships in the event this season.  The 4x800-meter relay team of Boyle, juniors Tiffany Catalino and Amanda Samok and sophomore Jennifer Wagner placed sixth in the event with a time of 9:37.92.

At Haverford Open – No Team Scores

Juniors Heidi Wolfsberger and Emily Shertzer continue to lead the women’s track and field team as each won an event at the Haverford College Open over the weekend.  Wolfsberger captured first in the 1,500 meters with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 4:40.8.  Wolfsberger is already an automatic qualifier in the event.  Shertzer captured first place in the 3,000 meters in 10:24.9.  Wolfsberger also led the Greyhounds to a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:14.8.  Joining Wolfsberger on the relay squad were sophomores Ann Corless and Jennifer Wagner and freshman Jaime Marks.  Wagner was also fifth in the 1,500 meters in 5:10.9 while Corless was fourth in the 400 meters at 1:04.3.  Junior Kim Jaick placed second in the 1,500 meters in 4:54.2 and she was ninth in the 800 meters at 2:30.5.  Junior Erin Boyle was second in the 800 meters at 2:21.0 while junior Amanda Samok was fifth at 2:26.4.  Junior Tiffany Catalino placed tenth in the 1,500 meters in 5:20.2. 

Freshman Christina Scherwin participated in her first collegiate competition and placed ninth in the 55-meters in 7.6 seconds and just missed provisionally qualifying for the national championships in the shot put with a toss of 12.51 meters.  Freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas placed seventh in the 55-meter hurdles at 10.1 seconds and she was 11th in the long jump at 4.25 meters.  Senior Brooke Dancho captured 11th place in the 200 meters in 29.0 seconds and she won the triple jump with a lead of 10.00 meters.  Dancho was also second in the long jump at 4.78 meters and ninth in the high jump at four feet, six meters.  Senior Lindsey Forman placed fourth in the triple jump at 9.61 meters and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.65 meters.  Sophomore Brooke Dawson was eighth in the high jump, clearing four feet, eight inches.

At Bucknell/Hershey Relays – No Team Scores

Junior Emily Shertzer  won the 5,000 meters at the Bucknell University-Hershey Relays with a time of 18:08.12 while classmate Heidi Wolfsberger was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:04.46.  Wolfsberger was also a member of two relay teams for the Greyhounds, helping the distance medley relay team to a third place finish in 12:19.19 (a new Moravian College record) and leading the 4x800-meter relay squad to a fourth place finish in 9:52.99.  Joining Wolfsberger on the distance medley relay squad were juniors Kim Jaick and Erin Boyle and freshman Jaime Marks.  Wolfsberger’s running mates in the 4x800-meter relay were juniors Tiffany Catalino and Amanda Samok and sophomore Jennifer Wagner.  Junior Sarah Shaneberger placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 11 inches.

At Haverford College First Chance Meet – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds sent just three competitors to the Haverford College First Chance Meet but came home with two first place finishes and four top three finishes.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 1,500 meters in a NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time of 4:39.1 and she also won the 800 meters in 2:27.2.  Junior Erin Boyle placed second to Wolfsberger in the 1,500 meters at 4:56.1 while junior Kim Jaick was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:50.0.

At Lafayette Invitational – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds opened their 2000-01 indoor season last weekend at the non-scoring Lafayette College Invitational.  Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the mile race in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 5:04.5, just two seconds off the automatic qualifying standard.  Junior Kim Jaick was second in the mile race in 5:07.6, also a provisional qualifying time, while junior Erin Boyle was fourth in 5:21.1.  Jaick placed fourth in the 880-yard run in 2:28.6 while sophomore Jen Wagner took fifth in 2:29.7.  Junior Sarah Shaneberger had a pair of third place finishes with a toss of 11.58 meters in the shot put and a distance of 12.60 meters in the 20-lb. weight throw.  Junior Carrie McCaffery was fifth in the 20-lb. weight throw at 10.24 meters.  Senior Brooke Dancho rounded out the Moravian place winners with a fifth in the long jump at 15 feet, five inches.
