The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team brought home the 2008 Landmark Conference Indoor Championship hosted by Susquehanna University and also won the 2008 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Championships hosted by Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. At the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, the Greyhounds tied for 38th out of 67 competing squads. This year’s team was under the direction of first year coach Walt Wandall. Wandall and his staff were named the Landmark Conference coaching staff of the year.
Sophomore Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) earned All-America honors for the Greyhound women for the first time in her career with a fourth place finish in the pole vault at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Heim cleared a season-best 3.76 meters (12 feet, four inches) to earn the All-America honors.
At the 2008 ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, freshman Syndi Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Park HS) set the school record with a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 57.97 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Wisniewski also earned second place in the 200-meter dash in 25.71 seconds. Sophomore Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) won the indoor pentathlon with a school record point total of 3,170 points. Posimo was first in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.63 seconds, first in the long jump at 5.09 meters (16 feet, 8 1/2 inches), first in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:36.90, second in the high jump at 1.60 meters (five feet, three inches) and seventh in the shot put with a toss of 7.42 meters (24 feet, 4 1/4 inches).
Posimo and teammates sophomores Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS) and Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) and Wisniewski ran a time of 1:43.97, just 36-hundredths of a second out of first in the 4x220-yard relay. Beck placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.88 seconds while Posimo was one spot behind in a time of 26.08 seconds. Heim would also earn a second place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.52 meters (11 feet, 6 1/2 inches) while sophomore Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) took 15th place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.63 meters (34 feet, 10 1/2 inches) and 19th place the long jump at 4.97 meters (16 feet, 3 3/4 inches). Wisniewski was 25th in the long jump at 4.75 meters (15 feet, seven inches).
At the 2008 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Wisniewski was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.38 seconds and 400-meter dash in a time of 58.76 seconds. Wisniewski joined up with Beck, Posimo and Scott to win the 4x200-meter relay in a school record time of 1:45.49 and then with Beck, Posimo and sophomore Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) in the 4x400-meter relay team for a first place finish in 4:06.93 seconds.
There were six other individual champions at the meet with Posimo winning the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.79 seconds, the long jump with a leap of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 1/4 inches) and the triple jump with a distance of 10.59 meters (34 feet, nine inches), Beck captured the 55-meter dash at a time of 7.44 seconds, Heim won the pole vault with a height of 3.19 meters (ten feet, 5 1/2 inches) and sophomore Flora Robertson (Hawley, PA/East Stroudsburg North HS) got first place in the 20-pound weight throw with a heave of 14.34 meters (47 feet, 3/4 inch). All of the champions earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors for their first place finishes.
Moravian had six individuals and a relay team earn Landmark All-Conference Second Team accolades with second place finishes in their events. Wisniewski was the runner-up in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.45 seconds while Beck placed second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.79 seconds. Junior Kayla Teeling (Milford, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) turned in a pair of runner-up finishes taking second in the mile run on 5:23.33 and in the 800-meter run in 2:26.08. Riggs was second in the triple jump in a distance of 10.55 meters (34 feet, 7 1/2 inches) while Robertson placed second in the shot put with a toss of 10.17 meters (33 feet, 4 1/2 inches). The Greyhounds 4x800-meter relay squad of Teeling, junior Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and freshmen Kristen Labert (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) and Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS) finished second in 10:30.19.
Posimo, Riggs, Robertson, Beck, Miller, Teeling, Chando, senior Katie Pulizzano (Allentown, PA/William Allen HS) and junior Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) all were named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll.
