1997 Review

For the fifth straight year, both the men's and women's cross country teams at Moravian captured the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship. The Lady Greyhounds finished in the top ten at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Behind the running of senior All-American Tara Wartman (Bethlehem/Freedom HS), the women’s cross country team finished in the top ten at the NCAA Division III National Championship meet for the fourth time in five years with an eighth place finish. Moravian won two meets and was second in six races.

Wartman won five of the nine races she competed in this fall and did not lose to a NCAA Division III runner until the NCAA Mideast Regional. She captured her second consecutive MAC individual title at Allentown College and by finishing seventh at the national championship, Wartman earned All-America honors for the second time.

Junior Kristie Reccek (Hellertown/Wilson HS) was on Wartman’s heels all season and it paid off as she finished 27th at the national championships to earn All-America honors and fourth at the Mideast Regional for All-Region honors. During the season, Reccek placed in the top ten in seven of nine meets. Senior Kasie Hornberger (Sinking Spring/Wilson West Lawn HS) just missed All-America honors by placing 38th at nationals but did earn All-Region accolades by placing ninth at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Freshman Hannah Wood (Palm/Upper Perkiomen HS) had an impressive debut season earning Freshman All-Regional honors at the NCAA Mideast Regional. Wood had two top ten finishes during the campaign. Senior Becky Page (Gilbertsville/Boyertown HS) also earned All-Region accolades by finishing 25th at the regional meet.

Sophomore Jen Samson (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain HS) and junior Amy Cavanaugh (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads HS) rounded out the Lady ‘Hounds top seven.
