The 1998 Moravian College men’s and women’s cross country teams,
under the direction of Head coach Mark Will-Weber captured their record
sixth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Senior Kristie Reccek (Hellertown/Wilson HS) led the Lady Greyhounds
to their sixth consecutive MAC Championship and sixth straight appearance
at the NCAA Championship finishing 14th out of 21.
Reccek won the MAC Championship, finished 46th at the National Championship
and had six top 10 finishes this season.
Freshmen Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) and Heidi Wolfsberger
(Moosic/Riverside HS) battled for 2nd and 3rd position throughout the
season. Shertzer had five top 10 finishes and Wolfsberger had three top
10 finishes and the squad's best finish at nationals in 38th place.
Sophomore Hannah Wood (Palm/Upper Perkiomen HS) finished the season
with two top 10 and was named NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region. Reccek,
Shertzer and Wolfsberger were also named to the All-Region squad. Shertzer
and Wolfsberger also made the NCAA Division III Freshman All-Mideast
Region.
Junior Jennifer Samson (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain HS) helped the ‘Hounds
throughout the season, but was unable to run at the end of the season
due to an injury in October. Freshman Erin Boyle (Philadelphia/Nazareth
Academy) took the five position after Samson was injured and had respectable
finishes in the MAC, NCAA Qualifier and NCAA Championships.
Senior Amy Cavanaugh (Horseheads, NY/Horse-heads HS) and junior Maria
Graboswki (Churchville/Villa Joseph Maria) helped the ‘Hounds at
the NCAA Championship as the teams six and seven positions.
Freshmen Jen Burkholder (Chalfont/Gwynedd Mercy), Kim Jaick (Coopersburg/Southern
Lehigh HS) and Emily James (Pottstown/St. Piux X HS) each helped Moravian
this season with Jaick having a top ten finish.
