At The University of Scranton – Lost 2-0 - Box Score

           The top seeded University of Scranton women’s soccer team posted its 13th shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over fourth seed Moravian College in a semifinal match of the 2010 Landmark Conference Tournament Wednesday evening.
            The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when forward Samantha Russo scored her eighth goal of the season from 18-yards out on a pass from midfielder Chelsea Paskman.  Moravian nearly tied the match in the 78th minute on a shot from senior forward Shannon McEvoy, but Scranton scored in the 80th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.  Rebecca Hextall netted her sixth goal of the year on a 17-yard shot with an assist from Kaitlyn Greeley. 
            Scranton had an 18-9 advantage in shots while Moravian held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.  Greyhound senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured, had six saves in her final collegiate match while senior Caitlin Byrne had five saves for the Royals.

Vs. The Catholic University of America – Won 2-1 - Box Score

           Sophomore defender Eileen Black, pictured at right, scored in the 52nd minute to give the Moravian College women’s soccer team a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 Landmark Conference win over visiting The Catholic University of America Saturday afternoon on the HUB Quad as the Greyhounds clinch the final berth in the 2010 Landmark Conference Tournament.
            Moravian will be the fourth seed and head to top seeded The University of Scranton on Wednesday, November 3rd for a semifinal match at a time still to be determined.
            The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when junior forward Arielle Caldas scored off of a pass from junior midfielder Kim Gogel.  It was Caldas’ second goal of the season.
            Black then netted her team leading fourth goal of the year for the 2-0 Moravian lead.  The Cardinals would get within a goal in the 75th minute when senior forward Kelly Donnelly scored her second goal off the season off of a pass from sophomore midfielder Lauren Cadott.
            Catholic had a 12-7 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin had eight saves while junior keeper Christina Cassidy had one save in 88 minutes of action for Catholic.  Sophomore midfielder Mary McGann served as the goalie for the Cardinals while Cassidy left the game for a little over two minutes due to an injury, and McGann had two saves.

At York College of Pennsylvania – Lost 3-0 - Box Score

            The York College of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team closed out its 2010 regular season with a 3-0 non-conference win over visiting Moravian College Wednesday afternoon.
            Allie Jensen opened the scoring in the 31st minute with her third goal of the season off of a cross from Ali Jones.  The Spartans extended the lead to 2-0 with one second remaining in the first half when Jackie Gibat scored her second goal of the year after a corner kick by Lauren Fowler.  York finished off the scoring in the 61st minute when Erin Mummert netted her second goal of the season on a free kick by Ally Wivell. 
            Moravian, which was playing its final non-conference match of the season, had a one-man advantage for the final 27 and a half minutes after a red card to the Spartans, but the Greyhounds were unable to capitalize.
            York had a 20-8 advantage in shots including an 11-0 edge in the first half, and the Spartans held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Moravian freshman goalie Genevieve Chaleff made her first collegiate start in goal with five saves while Desiree Halaka made four saves for York.

Vs. Susquehanna University – Won 4-1 - Box Score

            Freshman midfielder/forward Rachael Hurley, pictured at right, scored a pair of goals to help lead the Moravian College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 Landmark Conference win over Susquehanna University on the HUB Quad Saturday afternoon.
            Hurley opened the scoring in the 17th minute when she knocked in an indirect kick from sophomore defender Eileen Black.  Senior Shannon McEvoy gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute for her first goal of the season.
            Senior forward Julie Briskey cut the lead in half for the Crusaders when she netted a long unassisted goal in the 57th minute.  Hurley needed just 35 seconds to score her third match of season and regain the two-goal advantage for Moravian.  The Greyhounds would get a fourth goal on an own goal by Susquehanna in the 60th minute.
            Moravian had a 15-11 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.  Greyhound senior goalie Sarah Halpin had seven saves in the match while Susquehanna freshman goalie Rachel Norbuts had six saves.

Vs. The University of Scranton – Lost 3-0 - Box Score

           Freshman forward Samantha Russo scored a pair of first half goals to help lead The University of Scranton women’s soccer team to a 3-0 Landmark Conference victory over host Moravian College Tuesday afternoon on the HUB Quad.
            Russo opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute as she took a ball through the Moravian defense for a one-on-one shot from the right side on Scranton’s opening shot of the contest.  Russo added another unassisted tally in the 41st minute on another breakaway down the right side.  It was Russo’s sixth goal of the season.
            Scranton freshman midfielder/forward Rebecca Hextall finished off the scoring in the 70th minute when she took a lone lead pass from sophomore defender Jess Sciscione and took a shot from the top of the box for Hextall’s fifth goal of the year.
            Both teams took ten shots with Moravian getting seven shots off in the first half and the Royals shooting seven times in the second half. Senior defender Kaitlyn Russell, pictured, led the Greyhounds with three shots.  Scranton did have a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin had four saves while senior keeper Caitlin Byrne had four stops for Scranton, which also had one team save.

At Goucher College – Won 2-1 - Box Score

           Senior defender Mallory Goggins, pictured at right, snapped a 1-1 tie and an 11-match winless streak for the Moravian College women’s soccer team with an unassisted goal in a 2-1 Landmark Conference win at Goucher College Saturday afternoon.
            The Gophers took a 1-0 lead on their only shot of the match just 2:01 into the contest when forward Shay Kettner scored off of pass from forward Sam Schlosburg. 
            Moravian, which started the season 2-0-1 but was 0-10-1 in its last 11 contests, would tie the match in the 15th minute when sophomore defender Eileen Black headed in her team-leading third goal of the season off of a corner kick by senior midfielder Tara Alberse.  Goggins added the game-winning goal in the 41st minute, her first goal since the 2007 season.
            Moravian had a 22-1 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.  Goucher goalie Kellen Matthews had ten saves while Greyhound senior goalie Sarah Halpin did not make save in the match.

Vs. Haverford College – Lost 1-0 - Box Score

            Freshman forward Sophie Eiger scored the lone goal of the match in the 16th minute to lead the Haverford College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference win over Moravian College on the HUB Quad Wednesday afternoon.
            Eiger, who entered the match as a sub just 30 seconds before scoring, ended up with a wide open net from six yards out when Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured, went out to challenge a pass from Ford freshman forward Meg Boyer.  The ball slipped through and found Eiger in front of the goal. 
            Haverford, ranked tenth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, had a 15-6 advantage in shots; however, Moravian outshot the Fords, 6-2, in the final 23 minutes.  Haverford also had an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.  Ford senior goalie Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds made one save in the contest while Halpin registered seven saves for the Greyhounds.

Vs. #20 Rowan University – Lost 4-0 - Box Score

            The 20th-ranked Rowan University women’s soccer team had four different players score in a 4-0 win at Moravian College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon on the HUB Quad.
            Junior forward Veronia Rhea opened the scoring off of a pass from junior defender Christine Foy in the 25th minute, Rhea's sixth goal of the season, while junior midfielder Christie Fink had agoal in the 41st minute off of a crossing pass from freshman defender/midfielder Dayna Sakalsky as the Profs headed to the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
            Sophomore forward Melanie Whittenberger tallied an unassisted goal in the 60th minute while sophomore midfielder Audrey Gagnon had an unassisted goal in the 89th minute to finish off the scoring for Rowan.
            The Profs had a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured, had seven saves, and the team posted on team save.  Freshman goalie Deana Wood had two saves for Rowan, which also had one team save.

At Muhlenberg College – Lost 5-3 - Box Score

            Junior midfielder/forward Meghan O’Grady netted a pair of goals and added an assist to help the Muhlenberg College women’s soccer team post a 5-3 win over visiting Moravian College Wednesday afternnon.
            The Mules jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with a pair of late goals just over five minutes apart.  O’Grady opened the scoring when she headed in a pass from senior defender Valerie Patriarca in the 40th minute.  Just 31 seconds before halftime, Patriarca scored off of an assist from freshman midfielder Stephanie Tramutola.
            Muhlenberg pushed its lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute when Tramutola had a wide open net to shoot at after a crossing pass from O’Grady.  Moravian senior midfielder Emily Rodriguez would get the Greyhounds on the scoreboard just 28 seconds later with her first goal of the season.  O’Grady netted what was the winning goal in the 62nd minute.  Junior midfielder Nicolette Miller gave the Mules a 5-1 lead in the 64th minute when she scored off of a pass from freshman midfielder CJ Graetzer.
            Freshman midfielder/forward Taylor DiSora, pictured, netted her first collegiate goal for the Greyhounds in 76th minute when she headed in a pass from junior midfielder Jenna Stickle.  Freshman midfielder/forward Rachael Hurley added her first career goal for Moravian three minutes later when she headed in a pass from senior midfielder Tara Alberse.  For Moravian, the three goals matched a season high and are more goals than the squad had scored in its previous eight matches combined.
            Muhlenberg had an 18-17 edge in shots while both squads each had two corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin made five saves while junior goalie Michele Toher had four saves for Muhlenberg.

            Four different players scored to lead the Juniata College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 Landmark Conference victory over visiting Moravian College Saturday afternoon.
            The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Caitlin Bigelow, Jennifer Graves and Alicia Snyder.  Erin Eddinger added two assists while Katie Keating and Molly Sellar each had one assist.
            The Greyhounds would get on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute when sophomore defender Eileen Black, pictured at right, netted an unassisted goal, her second season.  Jennifer Novak scored in the 58th minute for Juniata off of a pass from Paula Pryor.
            The Eagles had a 17-13 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin returned to the line-up after missing three matches with seven saves.  Kristen Penska had two saves for Juniata.

            Sophomore forward Kelsey Doutrich had two goals and an assist to help lead the Eastern University women’s soccer team to a 5-0 non-conference win over Moravian College Wednesday afternoon on the HUB Quad.
            The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the 43rd minute when junior midfielder Michelle Brown hit a blast from the top right of the 18-yard box on a tipped pass from junior midfielder Allison Inch.  Eastern then scored four goals in the second half with junior forward Tess Beckwith starting the scoring as she tapped in a goal after a lead pass from Doutrich in the 51st minute.
            Junior midfielder Krsitine Zeiset netted an unassisted goal three minutes later as she took a long shot and put it into the top right corner of the net.  Doutrich scored her first goal of the contest in the 65th minute off of a pass from Beckwith before finishing the scoring in the 79th minute with an unassisted goal as her shot bounced in off of a Moravian defender.
            Eastern had a 26-10 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior forward Shannon McEvoy, pictured, led the Greyhounds with four shots while Moravian’s best opportunity to score with just over four minutes remaining on a shot from freshman midfielder Rachael Hurley that Eastern freshman goalie Sarah Herman made her third and final save on.  Greyhound sophomore keeper Tori Korona had ten saves, her second straight double-digit total.

At Drew University – Lost 2-0 - Box Score

            The Drew University women’s soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over visiting Moravian College to begin the 2010 Landmark Conference season Saturday afternoon.
            The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Liza Loiodice scored off of a rebound.  Drew also scored in the 47th minute when Christine Meconi scored on a loose ball in front of the net. 
            Drew had an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.  Three of the Greyhounds’ shots were by senior midfielder Emily Rodriguez, pictured, who returned to the line-up after missing five matches with an injury.  Moravian sophomore goalie Tori Korona had a career high 11 saves in her second straight start while Kim Jaikisson had five saves for the Rangers.

Vs. Elizabethtown College – Lost 4-0 - Box Score

            The Elizabethtown College women’s soccer team scored three times in the first 26 minutes and went on to post a 4-0 non-conference victory over host Moravian College Wednesday afternoon on the Hub Quad.
            Senior forward Elyse Carabello opened the scoring in the eighth minute when she took a crossing pass from sophomore forward Laura Wingert.  Senior midfielder Kelly Fisher pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute off of a pass from senior defender Lisa Nyman.  Wingert then added her fourth goal of the season for the Blue Jays in the 26th minute when she tapped in a loose ball after the Greyhounds defense couldn’t control a headed ball after a direct kick by Kathryn Ritter.
            Elizabethtown finished the scoring in the 69th minute when freshman forward Alex Topa tapped in a crossing pass that was started by freshman forward Alyssa Koplin and one-touched to Topa by senior defender Paige Minka.
            The Blue Jays had a 20-10 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.  Blue Jay sophomore goalie Jess Manchak had three saves in 77 minutes of action while freshman keeper Tori Reynolds had three saves in the final 13 minutes.  Moravian sophomore goalie Tori Korona had six saves in her first start of the season.

            The Dickinson College women’s soccer team scored a pair of goals in the final ten minutes to earn a 2-0 non-conference win over visiting Moravian College Saturday afternoon.
            Genevieve Olson would break-up the scoreless match in the 81st minute when she scored off of a pass from Marissa Knukle.  Kunkle added an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute.
            The Red Devils had a 26-1 advantage in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured at right, made a career high 15 saves in the contest, her third double-digit save match of the season.

At Delaware Valley College – Tied 1-1 (2 ot) - Box Score

            Sophomore defender Eileen Black, pictured at right, put in a rebound in the 70th minute to help the Moravian College women’s soccer team earn a 1-1, double-overtime tie at Delaware Valley College in non-conference action Wednesday.
            The Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute when junior defender/forward Dana Gentile scored off an assist from senior forward Johanna Lovallo. 
            Black’s goal came after a Moravian corner kick as the Greyhounds have several shots and rebounds before Black scored her first goal of the season.  In the overtime session, Moravian had four corner kicks but just one shot with senior forward Shannon McEvoy just missing the winning goal with 30 seconds left in the first overtime.
            Delaware Valley had a 14-11 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin had ten saves in the match, her second double-digit save total this season.  Freshman goalie Julie Burnell had seven saves in the first 45 minutes for Delaware Valley while freshman keeper Miranda Schieler made one save in the final 65 minutes.

            Junior forward/midfielder Jenna Sargent scored the only goal of the match to lead host Wilkes University to a 1-0 lead over Moravian College in non-conference action Saturday night on the turf at the renovated Ralston Athletic Complex.
            Sargent scored an unassisted tally in the 53rd minute for the win.  The Colonels had a 12-9 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks in the match.  Greyhound senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured at right, made five saves in the contest while Wilkes sophomore keeper Samantha Rohn added three saves.

Vs. Ursinus College – Lost 3-0 - Box Score

            Sophomore forward Cecilia Mansson of the Ursinus College women’s soccer team scored a pair of goals as the Bears handed Moravian College and new head coach Brienne Smith its first loss of the season with 3-0 win on the HUB Quad Wednesday in Bethlehem.
            Mansson started the scoring in the 27th minute when she put a rebound in the back of the net off of a corner kick.  Freshman forward Sarah Cogswell found the back of the net off of a pass from junior midfielder Diana Witjik in the 76th minute before Mansson scored again in the 85th minute off of a pass from sophomore forward Leah Shaw.  The last two goals were shots from the right side as Cogswell and Mansson were sent in on breaks.
            Moravian, which entered the game ranked 9th in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, had an early 4-2 edge in shots; however, Ursinus ended the match with an 18-6 advantage in shots.  The Bears also had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

            Junior forward Arielle Caldas, pictured at right, scored with 56 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Moravian College women’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Hiram (OH) College Sunday morning on the second day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State-Behrend.
            The Greyhounds, who won the tournament, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when junior midfielder Kim Gogel scored her second goal of the tournament off of a pass from junior forward/midfielder Kristin Popovice.  Hiram answered less than five minutes later when Stephanie Takeuchi scored off of an assist from Kendra Dean.
            Moravian retook the lead in the 75th minutes when junior midfielder Jenna Stickle scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from senior forward Jenelle Mirro.  The Terriers needed only 27 seconds to tie the contest as Claire Conner scored on a pass from Dean.
            The teams would remain tied at 2-2 until Caldas took a pass from Stickle and scored her first goal of the season in the final minute of the second overtime. The goal was the 25th of Caldas' career, fourth in the Moravian record books, and moved her into sixth in school history with 56 points.
            The Greyhounds had a 15-14 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin, who had her scoreless streak to start the season snapped at 227 minutes, made four saves in the match. Halpin, pictured at left, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.  Hiram keeper Emily Bristol had two saves.

Vs. Baldwin-Wallace College in Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament at Penn State-Behrend – Won 1-0 - Box Score

            Junior midfielder Kim Gogel, pictured at right, scored in the 25th minute to give the Moravian College women’s soccer team a 1-0 lead that would hold up for victory over Baldwin-Wallace (OH) College in the opening day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State-Behrend.
            Gogel took a shot from 15 yards out on a deflection after a corner kick for the Greyhounds’ first goal of the 2010 season while the victory was the first for new head coach Brienne Smith.
            The Yellowjackets had an edge statistically with a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.  Moravian senior goalie Sarah Halpin had seven saves for her second straight shutout while Tina Mathur made three saves for Baldwin-Wallace.

            Senior goalie Sarah Halpin, pictured at right, made a career high 13 saves including a pair of shots on the goal line that nearly bounced in to help the Moravian College women’s soccer team play to a 0-0, double-overtime draw with Lebanon Valley College to open the 2010 season and head coaching career of new Greyhound coach Brienne Smith Wednesday afternoon.
            The Flying Dutchmen had a 21-14 advantage in shots with sophomore forward Nicole Snyder leading LVC with eight shots, and both squads attempted five corner kicks.  Junior midfielder Jenna Stickle led the Greyhounds with four shots.
            Lebanon Valley junior goalie Sami Young had ten stops as the squads combined to put 23 of the 35 shot attempts on goal.
