The Greyhounds suffered a 7-2 loss to local rival Muhlenberg College
in a match played during Moravian's non-traditional season. Moravian's
lone wins came in singles action from Hana Kotoulkova and Jillian Simms.
The loss sets the final Matte Award Standings at 9-8 Moravian for the
2002-03 academic year.

NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University. The Greyhounds won five
of six singles matches and all three doubles contests. Moravian's singles
wins were by Becky Deringer, Lauren Castagna, Marion Berry, Hanna Kotoulkova
and Katie Cooke and the Greyhounds' doubles victories were by the teams
of Deringer and Jennifer Genevese, Berry and Jillian Iacovelli and
Nicole Gruber and Sara Weller.

Individual Tournament Second Day Results
The duo of junior Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian Iacovelli reached
the finals of the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Tournament
at Drew University before losing. Berry and Iacovelli, the number five
seed, opened the second day of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-7 (5),
6-2 victory over seventh-seeded Heather Bush and Megan Barnickel of
Messiah College in the semifinals. The duo then fell to sixth-seeded
Maggie Grezlak and Caitlan Wyble of FDU-Florham in the championship
match, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. In singles action, Moravian senior Jennifer Genevese
closed out her Moravian career in the semifinals. Genevese, the number
three seed lost to second-seeded Cricket Temple in the semis, 6-3,
7-5. Genevese completes her career with a singles record of 53-13.

Individual Tournament First Day Results
Senior Jennifer Genevese and the duo of junior Marion Berry and sophomore
Jillian Iacovelli have advanced to the semifinals of the 2002 Middle
Atlantic Conference Individual Tournament at Drew University. Genevese,
seeded third in the tournament, had a first round bye and defeated
Danielle Dormer of Susquehanna University, 6-4, 6-0 in the second round.
Genevese won her third match of the day with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory
over seventh-seeded Megan Michael of King's College. Genevese will
battle second-seeded Cricket Temple in the semifinals. Berry and Iacovelli,
seeded fifth in the tournament, also had a first round bye before defeating
Alaina Ford and Kathy Massey from Drew University in the second round,
5-7, 6-0, 6-1. The duo moved into the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-3 victory
over fourth-seeded Michelle Olas and Leyna Bollwage from FDU-Florham.
Berry and Iacovelli will play seventh-seeded Heather Bush and Megan
Barnickel of Messiah in the semifinals. Senior Missy Graeff also competed
in the singles tournament for the Greyhounds. Graeff won her first
round match over Lisa O'Neil from Albright College but she was knocked
out of the tournament in the second round by top-seeded Tara McHugh
of Susquehanna University, 6-0, 6-1. The doubles team of seniors Jillian
Simms and Lea Ziegler suffered a first round loss to Melanie Parenteau
and Kristy Trimbey of Elizabethtown College, 7-6 (1), 6-4.

At Marywood University Won 6-3
The Greyhounds closed out their second straight undefeated season
and improved their overall winning streak to 38 consecutive matches
with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Marywood University in the team's
final dual match of the season. Moravian earned just one point in the
doubles action with a victory at third doubles by sophomore Julie Anderson
and freshman Rachel Vannatta. However, the Greyhounds took five of
the six singles contests including straight sets victories from senior
Jennifer Genevese, junior Petia Damianova and freshman Katie Cooke.
Junior Lauren Castagna and sophomore Becky Deringer both needed three
sets to earn their wins against the Pacers. Both players won in super-tiebreakers
in the final set.

Moravian captured its third consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference
Championship with an 8-1 victory over Messiah College. The Greyhounds,
who extended their winning streak to 37 straight matches with the win,
also captured their sixth MAC title in the last seven seasons and improved
the team’s record to 131-11 since the start of the 1994 season.
Moravian also won the regular season match between the two schools
by the same 8-1 score. Moravian opened the match with three wins in
doubles action. Senior Jennifer Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer
earned an 8-1 victory at first doubles while junior Marion Berry and
sophomore Jillian Iacovelli garnered an 8-6 win at second doubles.
Senior Lea Ziegler and junior Lauren Castagna finished off the doubles
sweep with an 8-6 victory at third doubles. The Greyhounds then won
the first five singles matches to clinch the title. Berry was the first
off the court with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles to give her
and undefeated season in singles action. Genevese captured the championship
point with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at first singles. The victory was the
50th of Genevese’s career and improves her career mark to 50-12
at Moravian. Deringer was the next Greyhound to finish with a 6-1,
6-0 victory at second singles and she was quickly followed by senior
Jillian Simms, who earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Castagna
posted a 6-2, 6-3 at third singles for Moravian’s final point.
The final contest to finish was at sixth singles where Moravian’s
freshman Nicole Gruber forced a third set but eventually lost to Messiah’s
Cristine Kalb, 6-0, 6-7 (8), 13-11.

Vs. Lycoming College in MAC Semfinals Won

The Greyhounds moved into the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship
match for the ninth consecutive year as the squad defeated Lycoming
College, 6-3, in a MAC Semifinal Wednesday. Moravian, which extended
its current winning streak to 37 straight matches, will host Messiah
College in the championship contest on Saturday as the Falcons defeated
FDU-Florham, 6-3, in the other MAC Semifinal. Moravian opened the match
with victories in two of the three doubles contests. The Greyhounds
wins were by the teams of junior Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian
Iacovelli and Castagna and senior Lea Ziegler. Moravian clinched the
match with four straight-set singles victories by Berry, juniors Lauren
Castagna and Petia Damianova and freshman Nicole Gruber.

to 17 straight. Moravian had straight set singles victories from senior
Jennifer Genevese, juniors Lauren Castagna, Marion Berry and Petia
Damianova and sophomore Becky Deringer. Genevese's victory was the
49th of her Moravian career. Sophomore Jillian Iacovelli earned a singles

2002 Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs with a 9-0 victory over Albright
College in MAC Commonwealth action. The victory was Moravian's 32nd
in a row and the squad has won 16 straight MAC Commonwealth regular
season matches. Moravian's last loss was over two years ago on September
30, 2000 and the shutout of the Lions was Moravian's second of the
2002 season. In the victory over Albright, the Greyhounds swept the
doubles matches for the seventh time this season to begin the contest.
The teams of senior Jennifer Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer,
junior Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian Iacovelli and seniors Lea
Ziegler and Jillian Simms had the wins. In singles action, Moravian

Susquehanna University 5-4 in MAC Commonwealth action. Moravian, which
extended its MAC Commonwealth winning streak to 15, started the match
with wins in two of the three doubles matches. The victories were from
the teams of senior Jennifer Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer
and junior Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian Iacovelli. The Greyhounds
needed three wins in singles action to earn the victory and they did
with triumphs from Berry, junior Lauren Castagna and freshman Nicole
Gruber. Deringer dropped her singles match in three sets and it was
her first singles loss in a dual match of her Moravian career. She
had been 21-0 in dual matches.

At Haverford College Women's Invitational First
Day Results
The Greyhounds competed at the first day of the Haverford College
Women’s Invitational with The College of New Jersey and New York
University in a round robin individual tournament. Moravian had junior
Lauren Castagna win both of her singles matches while two players,
senior Jennifer Genevese and senior Petia Damianova, win one of their
singles contests on the day. In doubles action, the Greyhounds
had the duo of Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer earn two
victories while the teams of Castagna and sophomore Jillian Iacovelli
and sophomore Julie Anderson and freshman Rachel Vannatta each won
one doubles contest. Moravian will return to the Haverford Invitational
for one more round of competition on Sunday, September 15th beginning
at 11:00 a.m.

Moravian improved to 4-0 on the year and captured its 27th consecutive
victory with a 7-2 win over NCAA Division II Kutztown University of
Pennsylvania. The Greyhounds opened the match by sweeping the three
doubles matches for the third time this season. Earning wins were the
duos of senior Jennifer Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer, junior
Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian Iacovelli and senior Lea Ziegler
and freshman Meghan Meehan. The Greyhounds also received singles wins
from Genevese, Deringer, Berry and junior Lauren Castagna.

College. The Greyhounds swept through the doubles matches for the second
time this season with victories from the duos of senior Jennifer Genevese
and sophomore Becky Deringer, junior Marion Berry and sophomore Jillian
Iacovelli and senior Lea Ziegler and freshman Meghan Meehan. Earning
singles wins for Moravian were Genevese, Deringer, Berry, junior Lauren

Valley College in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. The
win was the 24th in a row, dating back to the fall of 2000 for the
two-time defending MAC Champion Greyhounds. Moravian swept the doubles
action to open the match with victories from the teams of senior Jen
Genevese and sophomore Becky Deringer, junior Marion Berry and sophomore
Jillian Iacovelli and senior Jillian Simms and junior Lauren Castagna.
Genevese, Deringer, Berry and freshman Nicole Gruber also earned singles
wins for Moravian.
