1998 Review

Another year, another championship for the women’s tennis team. The Lady Greyhounds made history this season by winning their third straight Middle Atlantic Conference team championship and posting an undefeated record of 16-0.

Senior Lynne Grzywacz (Blue Bell/ Wissahickon HS) won her second consecutive MAC singles title while junior Marnie Heller (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) and freshman Corrine Kleinsmith (Shillington/Governor Mifflin HS) won the doubles title.

Grzywacz, playing first singles, finishes her career 69-6 after finishing the season 19-1. She was 15-1 in doubles with senior partner Jessie Coughlin (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic HS). Coughlin completed her fourth straight regular season undefeated in singles action and finishes her career 62-2. Her only losses came in the MAC Individual Championships.

Heller was 9-6 at number three singles and 18-1 in doubles action with Kleinsmith. The tandem played together in high school which contributed to their MAC doubles title. Kleinsmith was 14-1 at fourth singles.

In her debut season, freshman Katie Copf (Allentown/Salisbury HS) was 11-2 in singles action. Classmate Eleanor Flower (Plymouth, CT/Terryville HS) finished 3-1-1 in singles play.

The third doubles team of senior Kate Rose (Hatboro/Hatboro Horsham HS) and sophomore Autumn Zander (Riegelsville/Bethlehem Catholic HS), which went 1-1 in the MAC Tournament, had an 11-5 mark. Zander also went 3-2 in singles action. Senior Liz Chamberlain (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central HS) also contributed in singles by posting a 4-3 record

Junior Lyn Ramsey (Perkasie/Pennridge HS) posted a 1-1 singles mark while teaming up with senior Julie Fanella (Hamilton Square, NY/Steinert HS) to finish 1-1 in doubles action. Ramsey also played in the MAC singles tournament.

Other members of the team included freshmen Julie Simms (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) and Amanda Heywood (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah).
