At Goucher College Individual Tournament - Second Day Results - Individuals Only - Box Score

           The Moravian College women’s tennis team completed its 2009 fall season during the second day of the Goucher College Individual Tournament.

           Sophomore Jami Fein captured the championship of the first singles draw, defeating Carly Heinz of Goucher College, 6-3, 6-2 in the final. Freshman Chelsea Ott, pictured, won the second singles draw with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Stephanie Cattron of Penn State-Behrend.

            In the third singles draw, sophomore Anna Meola won the fifth place match, defeating Addie McDowll from Elizabetthown College, 6-1, 6-1 while classmate Brianna Kavanagh won the fifth place match in the fourth singles flight with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ashley Kuhns of Frostburg State University.

            The freshmen duo of Stephanie Cox and Alex Van Buskirk captured first place in the second doubles draw, defeating Nicole Rodriguez and Janessa DiOrio from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). Moravian junior Elizabeth Endy was paired with Marina Sterngold from Goucher College in the first doubles draw due to a lack of players. Endy and Sterngold won two matches before falling in the finals to Joan Pupula and Meaghan Lee of Goucher, 6-4, 6-1.

At Goucher College Individual Tournament - First Day Results - Individuals Only

           The Moravian College women’s tennis team is competing at the two-day Goucher College Individual Tournament, an invitational made up of four singles flights and two doubles flights.

            In the first singles draw, sophomore Jami Fein, pictured, earned a straight sets win, 6-2, 6-2 over Kathleen Wackler of St. Mary's College of Maryland in the opening round, and then she defeated Arica Christman of Penn State-Behrend, 6-2, 6-0 to reach the finals. Fein will battle Carly Heinz of Goucher in the championship match.

            Freshman Chelsea Ott has also reached the finals in the second singles draw. Ott opened with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kelli Williams from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey before sweeping Megan Martin of Frostburg State University, 6-0, 6-0. Ott is scheduled to play Stephanie Cattron of Penn State-Behrend in the final.

           In the third singles flight, sophomore Anna Meola dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) decision to Jessie Scarpello from Gwynedd-Mercy College in the opening round. Meola bounced back with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sam Baugher of Stevenson University in the consolation bracket. Meola is scheduled to play Addie Maxwell from Goucher College in the fifth place match on Sunday. 

            Sophomore Brianna Kavanagh suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Karen Hobaugh of Penn State-Behrend in the opening round before bouncing back to defeat Rachel Mullet from Stevenson University, 6-1, 6-3 in the consolation bracket. Kavanagh is scheduled to play Ashley Kuhns of Frostburg State University in the fifth place match.

            The Greyhounds have one doubles team competing with the freshmen duo of Stephanie Cox and Alex Van Buskirk reaching the finals of the second doubles draw. Cox and Van Buskirk defeated Christina Ledwith and Laura Suey from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round before defeating Monie Cuddahee and Jannill Sites of Frostburg State University, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10) to reach the finals.

Vs. LaSalle University - Won 7-2 - Box Score

           The Moravian College women’s tennis team finished its fall dual meet schedule with a 7-2 non-conference victory over NCAA Division I LaSalle University at Hoffman Courts Thursday afternoon as the Greyhounds improve to 5-1 on the year and extend their winning streak to three matches.

            Moravian took a 2-1 lead after the doubles action with the dup of junior Kerry McKinley, pictured, and sophomore Jami Fein winning 8-5 at first doubles and the tandem of sophomore Anna Meola and freshman Chelsea Ott capturing an 8-2 win at second doubles.

            The Greyhounds then won five of six singles matches in straight sets for the victory.  Fein won at first singles, 6-1, 6-3 while Ott posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles.  McKinley had a 6-1, 6-0 victory at third singles while Meola posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles.  Sophomore Alexandra Hay earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

            Moravian finishes its fall season at the Goucher College Individual Tournament this weekend, and the Greyhounds will resume their dual matches during spring break, the week of March 6th. 

At 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championship hosted by William Smith College - Individual Results Only - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team sent a pair of individuals to compete in the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championship hosted by William Smith College in Geneva, New York. The three-day tournament began on Friday and runs through Sunday.

            Sophomore Jami Fein, pictured, began competition in the third round of singles action Saturday against ninth seeded Danika Robison of Skidmore College. Robison knocked Fein out of the tournament by a score of 6-2, 7-5.

            Fein and freshman Chelsea Ott were in the consolation bracket for doubles action but lost on a walkover to Brittany Trimble and Delaney Scollan from Skidmore College.

 

At 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championship hosted by William Smith College - Individual Results Only - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team sent a pair of individuals to compete in the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championship being hosted by William Smith College in Geneva, New York. The three-day tournament began on Friday and runs through Sunday.

            Sophomore Jami Fein, pictured, captured a pair of matches in the first day of competition of the 64-player singles bracket. Fein opened the tournament with a straight sets win over Kelli Williams from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Fein then defeated ninth seeded Paige Aiello from The College of New Jersey. Fein won the first set of the match before Aiello retired. Fein will battle fourth seeded Danika Robison of Skidmore College in the third round on Saturday.

           Freshman Chelsea Ott is the other Moravian player competing. Ott captured a straight sets win over Montana Wilson of SUNY New Paltz in the opening round before falling to top seed and defending champion Jackie Shtemberg from The College of New Jersey, 6-3, 7-6.

           In doubles action, Fein and Ott lost to Joanie Hilton and Kiara Ocasio from host William Smith, 8-1, in the opening round.

At DeSales University - Won 8-1 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team won its second straight match, defeating DeSales University, 8-1, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. The contest was originally scheduled for September 11th but was postponed due to weather.

            The Greyhounds swept the doubles action to take a 2-0 lead with victories by the team of sophomore Jamie Fein and junior Kerry McKinley, pictured, at first doubles, the duo of sophomore Anna Meola and freshman Chelsea Ott at second doubles and the freshmen tandem of Stephanie Cox and Alex Van Buskirk at third doubles.

           Moravian won five of the six singles matches in straight sets with victories by Fein at first singles, which including a tiebreaker in the second set, Ott at second singles, McKinley at third and Meola at fifth singles. Junior Elizabeth Endy posted a three-set win at sixth singles.

Vs. Messiah College - Won 7-2 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team won its first match of the 2009-10 season on its home court, defeating Messiah College, 7-2, at Hoffman Courts Saturday afternoon.

            The Greyhounds had a 2-1 lead after doubles action with victories by the team of sophomore Jamie Fein, pictured, and junior Kerry McKinley at first doubles and the duo of sophomore Anna Meola and freshman Chelsea Ott at second doubles.

           Moravian won five of the six singles matches in straight sets with victories by Fein at first singles, Ott at second singles, Meola at fifth singles, sophomore Alexandra Hay at fourth singles and junior Elizabeth Endy at sixth singles.

 

At Franklin & Marshall College - Lost 5-4 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2009-10 season, falling at Franklin & Marshall College, 5-4, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. The match began outdoors but was moved indoors during singles action due to rain.

            The Diplomats led 2-1 after doubles with the Greyhounds earning a point at second doubles with a win by the team of sophomore Anna Meola, pictured, and freshman Chelsea Ott.

            The teams split the six singles contests. Ott won in straight sets at second singles, and Meola captured a straight sets win at fifth singles. Junior Kerry McKinley posted a three-set win at third singles for Moravian. The deciding match came at first singles where sophomore Jami Fein fell in three sets.

At DeSales University - Postponed to September 22nd

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team’s non-conference match at DeSales University, originally scheduled for Friday, September 11th has been postponed due to the weather.  The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd at 4:00 p.m.

Vs. Ramapo College of New Jersey in Moravian College Four-Team Invitational - Won 6-3 - Box Score

            The Greyhounds earned a 6-3 victory over Ramapo College of New Jersey in the winners match of the Moravian Four-Team Invitational played at the Lewis Tennis Center on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University.

            Moravian led 2-1 after doubles action with victories by the team of junior Kerry McKinley and sophomore Jami Fein at first doubles and the duo of sophomore Anna Meola and freshman Chelsea Ott at second doubles.

            The Greyhounds then won four of six singles matches with Ott and Meola each winning in straight sets. Fein and sophomore Brianna Kavanagh each needed three sets for their singles victories while McKinley fell in three sets at third singles.

Vs. Bryn Mawr College in Moravian College Four-Team Invitational - Won 8-1 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women's tennis team began the 2009-10 season with an 8-1 victory over Bryn Mawr College in the first round of the Moravian Four-Team Invitational played at the Lewis Tennis Center on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University.

            Moravian swept the doubles action to take a 3-0 lead behind wins from the teams of sophomore Jami Fein and freshman Chelsea Ott, junior Kerry McKinley and sophomore Anna Meola and junior Elizabeth Endy and sophomore Alexandra Hay.

           The Greyhounds then won five of the six singles matches for the victory with Fein, Ott, McKinley, Endy and Meola all winning in straight sets.
