Moravians season featured repeat titles at the indoor and outdoor Middle Atlantic Conference championships.
The Lady Greyhounds captured their third straight MAC indoor title behind eight first place finishes. Junior Alexis Katchuk (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point HS) and sophomore JoAnn Kertesz (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley HS) were both dual winners. Katchuk won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1 ¼ inches and the triple jump with a distance of 26 feet, ¾ inch. Kertesz captured the 55-meters in 7.65 seconds and the 200-meters in 27.83 seconds.
Junior Kristie Reccek (Hellertown, Pa./Wilson HS) was first in the 1,500-meters in 4:55.31 while senior Tara Wartman (Bethlehem/Freedom HS) was first in the 3,000-meters in 10:53.29. Sophomore Erica Landes (Reading/Muhlenberg HS) captured the top spot in the high jump with a leap of five feet.
At the outdoor meet, three student-athletes captured two individual MAC titles while two went on to compete at the 1998 NCAA Division III National Championships.
Wartman, Reccek and Kertesz each had two first place finishes at the MAC meet. Reccek and Kasie Hornberger (Sinking Spring/Wilson West Lawn HS) each competed at nationals. Wartman was first in the 5,000-meter run in 18:24.66 and in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 38:45.59. Reccek was the winner of the 1,500-meter run in 4:44.91 and the 3,000-meter race in 10:21.40. At nationals, Reccek finished 16th in 3,000.
Kertesz captured first in the 100-meter dash in 13.22 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.04 seconds at the MAC meet. She was second in the 400-meter dash in 59.64 seconds. Hornberger qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in both the 1,500 and 3,000. In a preliminary round of the 1,500, she was second in her heat and finished 10th in the finals of both races.
The Greyhounds track and field team had two impressive showings in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships last season, placing fourth in the indoor meet and moving up one spot to third in the outdoor championship.
