Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan ’90 to Present State of City
Bethlehem, Pa., November 4, 2008—Moravian College will host the 10th Annual Business Leaders Breakfast, presented by the Philadelphia Trust Company, on Thursday, November 6 in the Haupert Union Building. Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan ’90 will give an overview of the City finances and the steps the administration is taking to manage the budget and discuss the outlook for the coming year.
John Callahan grew up on the west side of Bethlehem and graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in biology from Moravian College, class of 1990. He went on to graduate from Harvard University JFK School of Government Executive Program on Leadership in the 21st Century as well as the Transition and Leadership for New Elected Mayors Program. Before becoming Mayor, Callahan was a senior institutional healthcare consultant for Pfizer, Inc., a “Fortune 20” company, and also served on Bethlehem City Council from 1998-2004. When he was elected to City Council in 1998, he became the youngest Councilman in the history of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He also chaired the Finance Committee and the Public Works Committee and currently serves on a number of boards and committees. He was sworn in as the mayor of Bethlehem on January 5, 2004 after a landslide victory and ran unopposed in 2005. Mayor Callahan is now serving his first four-year term which began in January of 2006.
