Moravian College Big Band to Perform The Great American Songbook

Bethlehem, Pa., November 5, 2008—The Moravian College Big Band has been invited by the Community Music School to perform at Allentown Symphony Hall on Friday, November 7 at 8 p.m.  The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Neil Wetzel, will perform “The Great American Songbook” with special guests Pat Flaherty and Craig Kastelnik.

The Moravian College Big Band is a musical ensemble made up of elite musicians who are chosen to perform through audition. The band is dedicated to educating students and the public in the tradition and future of the large jazz orchestra through high quality performances. These presentations include jazz classics of the masters as well as new works arranged for traditional big band instrumentation. The group has performed at jazz festivals and backed many great jazz artists including the likes of Ravi Coltrane and T.S. Monk, among others.  Director Dr. Neil Wetzel is assistant professor of Music at Moravian College, where he teaches saxophone and is director of Jazz Studies.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased by calling 610 435-7725.  Because seating is limited, reservations are requested.  Proceeds from the performance will benefit Community Music School Programming.  CMS is a non-profit music education organization which was founded in 1981 to provide quality music instruction to all members of the community.  The Rodale Room is located in the Allentown Symphony Hall at 23 North Sixth Street in Allentown, PA.
