Pastoral Care and Spiritually the Topic at Moravian Theological Seminary
The Moravian Theological Seminary will hold two lectures by Dr. William Arnold focusing on psychology and spirituality. Both lectures will be held on Friday, February 19, in the Bahnson Center, 60 W. Locust Street, Bethlehem.
The first lecture, "Pastoral Care and Spirituality: A Journey through the Recent Past," will be held at 9:30 a.m. The lecture traces the history of pastoral care and counseling over the last 35 years. Discussion will focus on the various influences on pastoral care, both psychological and theological, that have attempted to rule the field. Dr. Arnold will share his pilgrimage as a pastoral counselor and invite participants to reflect on their own journeys.
The second lecture, at 10:45 a.m., "Pastoral Care and Spirituality: Some Proposals for Raising the ‘Spiritual Ante,’" will pursue the similarities of care and direction through exploring highlights from the first lecture. One major proposal will be to reclaim the traditional "spiritual disciplines" as integral components of pastoral and counseling.
William Arnold is an ordained Presbyterian minister. He received his Ph.D. in religion and pastoral counseling from Southern Baptist Seminary. He authored several books and publications, including When Your Parents Divorce, Introduction to Pastoral Care, and Pastoral Responses to Sexual Issues.
