Bethlehem, PA -- Moravian College will be hosting a Laser Symposium for high schools science teachers and their students, Saturday, November 6, 1999. The day-long event will feature leaders in the fields of medical and scientific lasers. "Moravian College is dedicated to the youth and the promise of the future, this is one step that we can take to prepare them for the new millennium," said Dr. Ervin J. Rokke, Moravian College president. "We are excited to be hosting this program that will explore the latest developments in cutting-edge laser technology."
The symposium will start with a series of speakers specializing in various topics relating to laser technology; everything from pure physics to cosmetic laser surgery will be discussed. The remainder of the program will feature a hands-on workshop for teachers and their students. Teachers will have the opportunity to assemble their own laser, as well as experiment with other types of lasers.
Students will have the chance to operate some of the top research and medical lasers on the market. this will be an excellent opportunity for participants to expand their awareness of one of the faster growing technologies today.
65 students and 18 science teachers will attend the program from 13 different Lehigh Valley high schools. Joe Powlette, chair of the Physics Department, is coordinating the program. Corporate sponsors include the Exploratorium, Aesthetica Cosmetic and Laser Center, Bio Med Sciences, Inc., Continuum Biomedical, and Preston Marketing.
