Bethlehem, Pa., September 15, 2008—The Moravian College Accounting Club (IMA Student Chapter) is supporting Jessica’s Race Against the Sun, a 5K Walk & Run to be held on Saturday September 27th at the Little Lehigh Parkway in Allentown, Pa. The goal of the walk/run is to increase awareness, prevention, and early detection of melanoma cancer. The Accounting Club is supporting the race through volunteering and raising money in memory of Cy Krajci ’65, who lost the battle to melanoma cancer last February. The Club has raised money towards a Bronze Level Sponsorship in memory of Krajci. His wife, Brenda Krajci will be joining the Accounting Club at the race for a banner memorializing ceremony.
A familiar campus presence, Cy Krajci’s passion for Moravian was evident in his ongoing involvement with the College. From meeting with students to participating in committees to chairing, with Brenda, the 2007 inauguration of president Christopher Thomforde, Cy always seemed to have time for one more Moravian-related activity.
Jessica’s Race Against the Sun is inspired by Jessica Coleman, who died of melanoma cancer last year after a three-year battle. There are thousands of people out there still struggling against this type of cancer. All proceeds from the event benefit Race Against the Sun’s Melanoma Fund for Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection, which supports St. Luke’s Cancer Centers in Bethlehem and Allentown, Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Melanoma Research Foundation, and other melanoma organizations.
Volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, cheering the participants on, and other volunteer duties. Volunteer times are from 7 a.m. until about 11 a.m. on the race day. Those interested in running/walking should pre-register for $25. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and is $30. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.. For more information or to pre-register for the event, visit www.RaceAgainstTheSun.org.
The Accounting Club is the student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants concerned with advancing the academic and professional careers of accounting and business students. Members are introduced to accounting and to careers in the business world through guest speakers, field trips, and social events. The advisor is Professor John Rossi.
