Bethlehem, Pa., March 20, 2007—The Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Moravian College will sponsor the Fourth Annual Christopher Seifert Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday, April 22 at Southmoore Golf Course in Bath, Pa. Seifert, a 1997 Moravian College graduate was a United States Army Captain, who was killed on March 22, 2003 during Operation: Iraqi Freedom. The fraternity, which he helped to found, sponsors the annual tournament to raise college scholarship money for his son, Benjamin, who was only four months old when Seifert died serving our country.
Seifert was a member of the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was killed when a troubled fellow soldier threw a hand grenade into the tent where Seifert was sleeping at Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait. Seifert left behind his wife, Theresa L. (Terri) Flowers ’97, and his son, Benjamin.
Seifert, a history major, was actively involved in many student programs at Moravian. He participated in the 26 Points student ambassadors program that provides student guides to conduct tours for prospective students and their parents, and was a lighting technician for theater productions, and a member of the Moravian College Theater Company. Off campus, Seifert volunteered his time and talents to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley. He also was a member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at Lehigh University.
Since its inception, the golf tournament has raised more than $30,000 toward Benjamin Seifert’s education. The success of the tournament is credited to all the sponsors, donors and participants, and with continued participation this year, the fraternity hopes to break the $40,000 mark, with 100 percent of the proceeds pledged to the scholarship fund. The tournament will be in the four-man scramble format with a double shotgun start, including tee times at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The registration fee is $80 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, food and drink, and prizes. Registration is due Friday, March 30.
