Moravian College Theatre Company Presents One-Act Plays

Bethlehem, Pa., April 22, 2009—Three One-Act plays will be performed at Moravian College’s Arena Theatre from April 23 through April 26, 2009.  The plays—“Who’s on First” by Harold J. Gilles, “The Laundromat” by Marsha Norman, and “Adam and Eve on a Ferry” by Tennessee Williams—will be performed in combinations of two from Thursday through Saturday, and all three together on Sunday afternoon.  The plays are acted and directed entirely by Moravian College students and produced by the Moravian College Theatre Company (MCTC).

“Who’s on First,” directed by Caitlin Adolph  (class of 2011), Sykesville, MD, is the classic, fast-paced comedy routine made famous by Abbot and Costello. The production features Jason Ginther ’11, Norristown, Pa. (recently seen in the title role of MCTC’s production of “Oedipus”) and Jen Balliet ’11, Northampton, Pa.

In “The Laundromat,” directed by Jessica Croll (class of 2009), Red Hill, Pa., two women meet & chat while doing their laundry, and uncover that each is in denial about some aspect of her life.  Lauren Taylor ’11, Haddon Heights, NJ, and Sarah Roth ’12, Allentown, Pa. co-star.

“Adam and Eve on a Ferry,” directed by Becky Kolacki (class of 2010), Blue Point, NY, is the story of another unlikely encounter:  after a run-in with a man on a boat, the spinsterish Ariadne seeks advice about romance and sex from the famous author D.H. Lawrence.  The play features Alanah Cervantes ’12, Riverside, CA, as Ariadne and Patrick Rosendale ’10, Hamburg, NJ, as D.H. Lawrence.

MCTC artistic director and faculty advisor, Christopher Shorr stated, “it’s terrific to see these student–directed projects. The students chose the plays and pitched their ideas.  I hope that this is the beginning of a lot more student initiated theatre projects here at Moravian.”

Performances of the one-act plays will occur at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, however, please note that NOT ALL PLAYS WILL BE PERFORMED EACH DAY.  They will be presented in the following combinations:
