Areas of Research and/or Expertise

Classical Mechanics; Mathematical Methods of Physics; Science Outreach Programs in local Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.


Dr. Roeder teaches courses in physics for the life sciences and advanced courses in mechanics, solid state physics, and methods of mathematical physics. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, and the American Association of Physics Teachers. He serves as the advisor to the College’s Chapter of the Society of Physics Students.

Recent Activities of Note


  • The Department of Physics and Earth Science participated in the annual Central Pennsylvania section meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers on March 27-28 at the campus of Penn State-Mont Alto. Ed Roeder, associate professor of physics gave a presentation on SPS Outreach activities, and physics major Andrew Abraham ’09 gave a presentation describing his Honors research on 2-D Crystallites. Kelly Krieble, associate professor and chair of physics and earth science, received a Distinguished Service award for his work as the section representative for Central Pa. Joe Powlette, professor of physics, also attended the meeting.
