Biography

Michelle E. Schmidt, earned her B.A., from Drew University and earned her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from George Mason University. Dr. Schmidt's research interests lie in the area of social and emotional development in childhood and adolescence. Her publications to date have focused on the precursors and consequences of early attachment relationships as well as the role of friendship as a potential buffer to peer victimization. Dr. Schmidt's current research projects include a longitudinal study of bullying behaviors in elementary school children and an evaluative study of Moravian's TLC Mentoring Program. Dr. Schmidt serves as the faculty advisor to Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, and serves as a Board member for the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium and Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Bethlehem YMCA. Dr. Schmidt is also Director of Academic Leadership Programs at the College. In this capacity, she runs the Emerging Leaders Scholarship program, Student Scholarship Day, and other programs in which students demonstrate and learn leadership through their academic endeavors. Dr. Schmidt won both the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Breidegam Faculty Service Award in 2003.
