Areas of Research and/or Expertise:

Multicultural and diversity issues. Language acquisition outside the classroom: a bridge to the Hispanic community. Latin American short stories, History of the Spanish Language, Medieval Spain, Colonial America, Art History, Art Education, Animation, Classical music and everything Greek.

Recent Activities of Note:

2010

  • Silvia Mandler, visiting instructor of Spanish, was a judge at 2010 Expo, held April 24 in Philadelphia. The event is a Spanish language competition for students from public and private high schools and colleges. The American Association of Teachers of Spanish, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, organizes the annual event. This is the second year she has served as a judge.

2009

  • Silvia Mandler, visiting instructor of Spanish, has been invited to become vice president of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. She is presenting about her recent research: “Teaching outside the classroom: A bridge to the Hispanic American Community” at the AATSP Annual Conference. Guadalajara, Mexico 10-12 July, 2010.
