Bethlehem, Pa., November 11, 2009— Moravian College will present the annual Vespers Preview Concert on Sunday, November 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Foy Concert Hall, located in the Hurd Center for Music and Art in Historic Bethlehem. The Vespers preview concert is open to the public and admission is by donation.
The Moravian Choir, directed by Paula Ring Zerkle, and the Moravian College Women’s Chorus, conducted by Eduardo Azzati, will perform the identical musical program, with the exception of the candle ceremony, that will be performed at the annual College Vespers services held in Central Moravian Church during the first and second weekends in December. Everything but the Candles is scheduled to afford the opportunity to those who wish to attend the Vespers service but were unable to acquire tickets for the December program due to requests far exceeding availability.
Director Dr. Zerkle summarizes the theme of this year’s annual service: “Much of the music of the Vespers program this year expresses appreciation of the feminine aspect of spirituality, focusing largely on the Virgin Mary and the rejuvenating qualities of nature.” The concert will feature works of various arrangements by a number of composers, all in line with the holiday spirit.
Foy Concert Hall is located at the corner of Main and Church Streets in Bethlehem. Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its founding to 1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college. Visit the Web site at www.moravian.edu.
