Moravian College to hold 11th Annual Holiday Lunch for Bethlehem’s Hungry
Bethlehem, Pa., December 3, 2008—For the 11th consecutive year, Moravian College will host a holiday luncheon at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity to provide food to residents of Bethlehem who might otherwise not be able to enjoy a seasonal feast. The luncheon will be held on Saturday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lunch will be attended by more than 250 people from a variety of Bethlehem social service agencies including New Bethany Ministries, Victory House, Trinity Episcopal Church Soup Kitchen, Fountain Hill School Family Center, Fowler Family Center (Donegan School), Turning Point, and Clearview Elementary School Family Center
This year, “special visitors” will attend the luncheon to spread holiday cheer among the guests, including the Moravian College “Holiday Hound” mascot. Terry Kubera, secretary in the Education Department, will organize volunteers to assist children with the arts and crafts activities. Student volunteers from Gamma Sigma Sigma and Delta Omicron will provide music and caroling. Hilde Binford, professor of Music at Moravian, and her two sons will engage guests in a project that results in Christmas tree ornaments each filled with a photo of the guest. A musical group comprised of students, staff, and friends will provide live music throughout the lunch.
For each of the last ten years, more than fifty Moravian College faculty, staff, and students have volunteered to help serve a traditional holiday dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, cake, and pie. Moravian College continues its partnership with social services agencies to provide outreach to residents of Bethlehem that would benefit from some holiday spirit and a nutritious hot meal. Cathedral Church is providing the site and Moravian College is providing the food and volunteers for the lunch. Moravian College volunteers will be setting up, serving food, greeting, entertaining, and interacting with guests and their children.
The Cathedral Church of the Nativity is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, at Wyandotte Street/Route 378 on south end of Hill-to-Hill Bridge in Sayre Hall.
