Bethlehem, Pa., October 29, 2010--Moravian College recently named Donna Smith as dean of the Comenius Center (Continuing, Professional, and Graduate Studies) at Moravian College. Smith had been serving as interim dean since Florence Kimball stepped down as dean of the Comenius Center at the end of August 2010.
Smith was an assistant dean since 2004 at the Comenius Center and served as associate dean since 2009. Prior to Moravian, Smith worked at Centenary College and was the director of academic support, where she focused on unifying efforts in academic advising, disability support, Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), and progress reporting.
Smith graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a B.A. degree in math and Spanish. She then went on to Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J. and earned her M.A. degree in instructional leadership. She earned her Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (Sociology) from the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nova Southeastern University.
Gordon Weil, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, said, "I am delighted to have someone with Donna's talents, good judgment, and detailed knowledge of the Comenius Center and the College assume this important leadership position. Smith has all the support of Moravian College and will prove to be an excellent dean of Comenius Center."
