Bethlehem, Pa., November 30, 2010--Theta Tau chapter at Moravian College this semester has made impressive efforts toward the fight against ALS. All semester they have been partnering with the Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association in order to raise both money and awareness for this disease.
The ALS Association is a nonprofit organization that raises money for research and patient services, promotes awareness about and advocates in state and federal government on issues related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Brothers of Delta Tau Delta chose to take up this cause at the request of fellow brother Rey Benschop '11, New Windsor, New York, who lost his father to ALS five years ago. "I appreciate all that my fraternity has put into this cause for this semester," Benschop said. "It is a cause that is very close to my heart and I hope that going forward we continue this excellent work."
The first event held this semester to raise money for the ALS Association was the 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament. Over 20 teams from Lehigh, Lafayette, and Moravian College played; double the amount of teams from last their previous tournament. The tournament overall raised over $600 for to help fight ALS.
Theta Tau did not just stop at the Volleyball Tournament as they also participated in the Lehigh Valley Walk To Defeat ALS on October 23, 2010. This event was a 2 mile walk that took place at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. Together with Ruthie's Pinch Hitters, Delta Tau Delta was able to raise $1,300 for the event.
