Moravian College to host Careers in Banking Conference and Networking Event
Bethlehem, Pa., February 11, 2005 —Moravian College will host the second annual Careers in Banking Conference and Networking Event on Wednesday, February 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Haupert Union Building. The event will bring students from Lehigh Valley colleges and universities including Moravian College, Lehigh University, Lafayette College, DeSales University, Muhlenberg College, and others to meet with key banking leaders and officials.
The event will begin with a CEO panel discussion focusing on the nature and diversity of banking careers. Participating on the panel will be: David Lobach, vice chairman & CEO of Embassy Bank for the Lehigh Valley; Scott V. Fainor, president & CEO of Keystone Nazareth Bank & Trust; Robert A. Rupel, president & CEO, Lafayette Ambassador Bank; and Jo Ann Broderick, president & CEO, First Commonwealth Credit Union.
After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for students to network with banking industry professionals. Last year over 30 banking professionals attended the event.
“The conference is designed to connect our state’s finest undergraduate students with opportunities and careers in the banking industry,” said Warren Hilton, director of career development at Moravian College. “The program provides a unique opportunity for students to gain insight into the industry directly from key leaders in the local banking community.”
“To make the program even more attractive to students we’ve created a few additional incentives,” Hilton continued. “The names of those who attend the entire event will be entered into a raffle with a grand prize of spending a day shadowing a CEO from one of the sponsor Banks. Other prizes include an MP3 player and a $25 Moravian College Book Store gift certificate.”
The event is currently sponsored by Embassy Bank, First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union, Keystone Nazareth Bank & Trust, Lafayette Ambassador Bank, Sovereign Bank, Bank of America, and Wachovia Bank. Students can register online before February 21 at: http://www.moravian.edu/events/banking. For more info email email@example.com.
In 2004, David Lobach of Embassy Bank and a member of Moravian College’s Business and Industry Council, suggested that Moravian College have an event that connected young talent with the banking industry. In response, Moravian College with the support of Embassy Bank, Keystone Nazareth Bank & Trust, Lafayette Ambassador Bank, Sovereign Bank and Wachovia Bank, held the first annual Careers in Banking Conference and Networking Event in April 2004. The event successfully connected Lehigh Valley college students with the banking industry. After the event, a website was created to be a constant connection between individuals interested in the banking industry and banking industry professionals. The website http://www.moravian.edu/events/banking/, contains information on the history of banking, the Federal Reserve Bank, types of banks, careers in banking, and the future of the banking industry.
