Moravian College Attracts Another Diverse Freshmen Class

Class of 2015 includes second largest number of students from historically under-represented groups

Bethlehem, Pa., August 22, 2011--The Admissions Office of Moravian College is reporting another successful year as 377 freshmen are scheduled to enroll for the fall 2011 semester, making the Class of 2015 the eighth-largest in Moravian’s 269-year history. Nineteen percent of the Class of 2015 are from historically under-represented groups, making it the second most diverse in the College’s history. The Class of 2013 was the highest with 20 percent

Other notable characteristics of the Class of 2015 include:

  • More than 40% ranked in the top fifth of their high school class
  • Average GPA was a 3.3 utilizing a 4.0 scale
  • 22 percent of the class are members of the National Honor Society
  • 19 percent were athletic team captains in high school
  • 25 percent of the class are first generation college-bound 
  • Entering Freshman completed 192 community service projects
  • 33 percent of the class are expected to choose a major in the natural sciences

“The Class of 2015 is outstanding,” said Erika E. Mondok, interim director of enrollment. “We are thrilled that we once again have surpassed our goals for enrolling students from historically under-represented groups, first-generation students, and prospective science majors. We had the challenge of selecting our freshmen class from the third largest applicant pool in our history. This is an excellent class and we believe it will leave its mark on the Moravian College community.”
