Moravian College to host Science and Math Career and Networking Event

Bethlehem, Pa., October 25, 2006—Students from the Lehigh Valley area high schools, colleges, and universities are invited to Moravian College to attend the Lehigh Valley Careers in Science and Math Conference and Networking Event on Wednesday, November 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building on Moravian’s Main Street Campus. The program is designed to afford students the opportunity to learn about career options in math, science, and technology industries and to network with representatives from a variety of regional companies that hire graduates in math and science.

At 6:30 p.m. a panel of industry leaders will deliver short profiles of their particular companies and discuss opportunities for science and math majors within those industries. The presentations will be followed by an open forum with attendees.  Panelists include Dr. Martha Collins, director of the Materials Research Center of Air Products & Chemicals, Inc.; Sheila O’Connell, president and founder of DataWorks International, Inc.; Dr. Patricia Pietrobon, vice president, research and development, US, Sanofi Pasteur; and Dr. Stephen Tang, group vice president and general manager of life sciences, Olympus America, Inc.

Networking and faculty receptions are scheduled from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. to afford students a session to meet key representatives from large and small employers who hire math and science majors, as well as to meet with personnel from human resources, who will address specific current, and future career and internship opportunities.  Faculty members from the participating schools will have the occasion to discuss academic and industry trends, and high school students may talk to faculty members about opportunities at their institutions.

The event is free and open to students from Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Lafayette College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College, Northampton Community College, and Penn State Lehigh Valley as well as local high school students.  Students may register for the event online at http://www.moravian.edu/events/careers/.

The program is sponsored by Air Products & Chemicals, Inc., Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, Philadelphia Math and Science Partnership, and Integrity Personnel.  Other partners are CollegeValley, the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges, and the Lehigh Valley Business Education Partnership.
