Bethlehem, Pa., October 2, 2012—Moravian College students and alumni will celebrate homecoming on Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13. Highlights of the weekend will include Friday’s alumni golf tournament, Habitat for Humanity build, and walking tour of Historic Bethlehem. Saturday will also be full of major events including the pregame tailgate party and homecoming parade, the homecoming football game, and reunions for the classes of ’82, ’87, ’92, ’97, ’02, ’07, and ’12.
The festivities will begin for alumni on Friday morning with the Rocco Calvo Alumni Golf Tournament at the Illicks Mill Golf Course. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, current members of Moravian’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity, other volunteering students, and volunteering alumni will continue Moravian’s outstanding tradition of engagement in community service by working together to build a home for a local family in need.
Friday’s events will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with “Death and Dying in Early Bethlehem: Going Home,” a walking tour of Historic Bethlehem. Those participating in the tour will learn about the lives of Bethlehem’s early Moravian settlers. The walk will begin at the 1741 Gemeinhaus on Church Street and will be held rain or shine.
Following a continental breakfast in the HUB Pavilion and a short tour to see the renovations on Main Campus, Saturday’s festivities will be highlighted by the pregame tailgate party at 11:00 a.m. on the football practice field where alumni, students, and fans can gather for good food, fun games, and unforgettable company.
The class reunions will begin early at the tailgate and conclude after the game at Bethlehem Brew Works’ Steelgaarden for the classes of ’82 and ’02 and at Roosevelt’s for the classes of ’07 and ’12 (postgame party locations for the classes of ’87, ’92, and ’97 will be announced later).
Another highly anticipated event on Saturday is the Homecoming Parade. Beginning at noon, the marching band, alumni band, cheerleaders, fraternities, sororities, and other student groups will march from Johnston Hall to the football field preceding the homecoming game.
The pregame program for the Homecoming Football Game against Susquehanna will begin at 12:45 p.m. on Steel Field, with the game to begin at 1:00. Fans are encouraged to wear dark blue shirts to the game to create a “Blue Out” effect. Rocco Calvo and Gil Gillespie will be honored at halftime for their inductions into the MAC Hall of Fame. Other games on Sunday include: Field Hockey vs. Neumann at noon on the Betty Prince Field, Women’s Volleyball in a Landmark Conference Tournament game vs. Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall, and Men’s Soccer vs. US Merchant Marine Academy at 3:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
