Bethlehem, Pa., October 15, 2012 –Moravian College’s American Association of University Women (AAUW) student affiliates will be hosting an event to celebrate “Love Your Body Day” in the Haupert Union Building on Wednesday, October 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The group is bringing in a masseuse to give free massages to Moravian students who join them for the event.
The National Organization for Women started the Love Your Body Campaign as a way to counter the unhealthy beauty ideals that are so often disseminated in the mass media. The goals of the campaign are to fight the objectification, over-sexualization, and constant judgment that women face because of unrealistic and unhealthy body images.
The AAUW student affiliates feel that Love Your Body Day is an important opportunity to advocate their mission of winning equality for women and girls and to educate the campus community about issues of health related to body image. They hope to represent for women of all sizes, shapes, skin colors, ethnicities, gender identities, and ages. The goal of the event is to contribute to bringing women on campus an understanding of healthy and realistic beauty and to inspire self-love, confidence, pride, and feelings of fulfillment.
The event is a free and it is open to all students on campus. Students looking for more information, can contact Melissa Walters at firstname.lastname@example.org or Steve Delturk at email@example.com.
