Moravian College Student Chosen to Illustrate Children’s Book

Caitlin Campbell IllustrationBethlehem, Pa., March 27, 2013—Ellen Greenberg, a local 40-year-old writer of children’s books, experienced a benign brain tumor. After surgery in 2010, she had to resign from teaching, and regain her skills with speech, reading, and writing. Because of her hard work and creativity, she has now written and published several children’s books: Inspector Spencer Solves the Curious Case of Danger Mouse and Inspector Spencer Solves the Case of the Stolen Piano available at Moravian Book Shop and amazon.com, as well as at the Bethlehem Area Public Library.

When she needed recently to hire a new illustrator for her third book, Inspector Spencer Finds the Purrfect Solution, she wrote to five area college art departments, seeking a student interested in illustrating several of her latest works, which she hopes will be published soon.

Only Moravian College students replied to her request. Five students from Moravian College Art Department expressed interest and one of these, Caitlin Campbell ’13, was chosen to be the next illustrator. Ellen is very delighted with her charming and quirky illustrations. She and her parents, Sandra and Normal Wruble of Hanover Township, are very grateful to Moravian’s students for their prompt, professional, and caring efforts.

The multitalented Campbell will graduate from Moravian this spring with a B.A. in environmental communication with minors in art and coastal studies. One of her goals is to write and illustrate books and education material that help connect kids with nature. She is working on an Honors Project at Moravian called the Barnegat Bay Coastal Explorer Program. As for her goals after graduation, she notes on her personal website, “I am currently pursuing a career in interpretation or environmental education. But I am also interested in graphic design, interpretive product design, exhibit design, writing, or anything else that will challenge me, make me happy, and have a positive impact.” Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its founding to 1742, it is recognized as America’s sixth-oldest college. Moravian partners with students to build a strong foundation for their future.
