Moravian College to Hold Summer Jazz Camp During July

Jazz CampBethlehem, Pa., June 10, 2013 – Moravian College will hold its Summer Jazz Camp from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12. The camp offers jam sessions, jazz history, master classes, workshops, classes in recording techniques, in addition to a recording session. A free public concert featuring the many talented campers will occur on Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m. in Moravian College’s Foy Concert Hall.

The instrumental program emphasizes improvisation within a small combo setting and a big band. The camp will begin with a faculty concert that will lead into a jam session. For the rest of the week, there are scheduled classes and rehearsals, in addition to activities in the evenings for residents.

Musicians entering grades 8-12 and college students are encouraged to apply. High school juniors and older, who have been accepted to the advanced track, have the option to earn college credit for enrolling in the class, “Introduction to Jazz Recording and Technology.” Students are allowed to stay on campus during the week, but are required to pay for housing and meal plans.

The camp offers two tracks: beginner/intermediate (for anyone) and advanced (audition required). Audition dates for the advanced track are Monday, June 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, June 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
