Moravian receives national award for online newsletter

The Moravian Star newsletter keeps alumni connected

(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) - The Moravian Star, Moravian College's newly launched on-line newsletter for parents and alumni, was selected to receive the first Harris Internet Services Achievement Award for the Best Online Newsletter.

The Moravian Star was held up as "the standard of excellence in the field" by the president of Harris Internet Services, creator and server of Moravian's alumni web site. Moravian's newsletter beat out competition from Rochester Institute of Technology, LeMoyne College, the University of Western Ontario, the University of California Riverside, the University of Detroit Mercy, and St. Leo University, who were also nominated by Harris.

The Moravian Star was designed by web manager Christie Jacobsen '00. It was developed by public relations director Michael Wilson, alumni relation assistant director Elizabeth Martin, and alumni relations director Bertie Knisely. Moravian College was honored at Harris's recent conference in Florida, attended by 140 of its clients. The Harris president's endorsement helped clinch the first Harris Internet Service Achievement Award for the newsletter, whose inaugural issue went on line just days before the conference. The Newsletter can be accessed on the web at http://www.moravian.edu/alumni/moravianStar/

"Harris is using the newsletter with prospective and current clients as an example of what others can achieve," reported alumni relations director Bertie Knisely '69. "I am grateful for the collaborative effort made by of all our departments."

Moravian was also nominated for Harris's Most Effective Branding award, but lost in this category to the University of Scranton.
