Student Recital to Feature Tenor Matthew Smyth ’05 – October 1
Bethlehem, Pa.—Tenor Matthew Smyth’05, (Doylestown, Pa.) will perform in recital on Friday, October 1, at 8 p.m., in Peter Hall on Moravian’s Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus. Smyth, a senior vocal performance major, will be offering a recital of Mendelssohn, Schubert, Vaughan Williams, and Quilter. Smyth will be accompanied by pianist Barbara Liebhaber, assistant professor of music, Moravian College. Admission is free. A celebratory reception will follow.
Smyth is a member of Delta Omicron, the International Music Fraternity at Moravian College, which includes among its eligibility criteria a GPA of 3.0 in music courses as well as evidence that the student possesses the potential for superior musicianship.
Various music performance organizations on campus count Smyth as a member, including both the College Choir and Vocalis, a small, mixed, a cappella vocal ensemble whose members are carefully selected from members of the College Choir. He is also a member of the opera ensemble and the Monteverdi ensemble.
Smyth is president of the college’s chapter of the Omicron Gamma Omega fraternity. Smyth will perform his senior student recital in April. He plans to attend graduate school for music upon graduating from Moravian College this spring.
