Our mission at Moravian demands the best of us —a community of teachers, learners, and performers, all of us together, an institution of higher education manifesting itself in three expressions, the college, the seminary and the Comenius center, rooted in the Moravian faith tradition, for the purpose of preparing students for leadership and service for the common good. This is our great purpose, our mission, and it is of such a magnitude that it calls forth the very best from each of us to live it out well. Our culture needs us to be the very best Moravian we can be because it desperately needs thoughtful, creative, morally informed men and women to serve as leaders for the common good. So much of the culture seems angular and harsh, so much seems glitzy and superficial, so much seems contented by a quick and easy slogan or solution. Liberally educated men and women who can think clearly, who can represent their ideas cogently and gracefully, men and women have a sense of agency, empowerment, men and women of moral courage and integrity and so greatly needed and, I believe, these are the kinds of men and women a Moravian education shapes and sends forth Our culture needs us to be the very best Moravian we can be because it desperately needs thoughtful, creative, morally informed men and women to serve as leaders for the common good. Working together, in community, at Moravian holds the promise of enriching each of our lives and all of our lives. The successful living out of our mission requires our best effort. Our culture cries out for the kind of men and women we are preparing. And our individual lives will be greatly enriched as we share in this common endeavor of high purpose and worth together in a community that values diversity, respects difference, cherishes justice, and extends to the right hand of fellowship to all. |
