MORAVIAN COLLEGE IS PLEASED TO CELEBRATE
On the weekend of April 20, 2007, Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary will celebrate an important event in the College's history--the inauguration of a new president. On that date Dr. Christopher M. Thomforde will be installed as the fifteenth president of Moravian College. The ceremony will take place on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Johnston Hall, followed by an outdoor luncheon on the plaza of the Priscilla Payne Hurd Academic Complex. Saturday will also feature on-campus displays by members of the College, Seminary, and Comenius Center. Attendees might also take in various sporting events scheduled that day, including the Greyhound Invitational Track and Field meet. On Sunday, a combined worship service at Central Moravian Church will include a sermon by Dr. Thomforde, who is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and who received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. Dr. Thomforde’s appointment makes him Moravian’s 15th President. That count includes the leaders of the men’s and women’s colleges that merged to form the institution in 1954 and the subsequent presidents of the modern College and Seminary. The inauguration weekend promises a wealth of activities for the College and Seminary community, visitors and guests. The festivities kick off on Friday with a Moravian Mile parade from the Main Street campus to the Priscilla Payne Hurd campus. A barbecue and special closing surprise on Main Street campus will round out the evening. Saturday’s events include the inauguration ceremony, luncheon, displays and athletics events. After Sunday’s worship service, the Moravian College Choir will perform Carmina Burana in Foy Hall on the Hurd campus. Admission will be charged for the concert.
