Last Journal Entry Ever!

April 24, 2007

Well, it’s been a long year, and this is it, the final journal entry. It seems like just yesterday I sat down at my little computer and thought about what to write about for my first journal entry. I’m experiencing the same thoughts now.

It’s raining today, but it’s been beautiful all week, like 80 degrees and stuff. It really took too long to reach this level of weather, and I think I speak for everyone when I say it never comes soon enough.

What to write about? Well, this past weekend was the inauguration of our new president, Dr. Christopher Thomforde. There was so much going on, it was one of the best weekends I’ve ever had at Moravian. On Friday night there was a parade from north campus to south campus that featured Moravian’s marching band, all of the fraternities and sororities, and a bunch of sports teams and other organizations. It was really cool and I took a ton of photos. After that there was a barbeque and fireworks on North Campus. The barbeque was great because it was outside and the weather was awesome and there were tons of people there. The fireworks were on the quad and they were truly spectacular. There were hundreds of people there; students, faculty, alumni, etc. It was one of the most successful times I’ve ever seen the greater Moravian College community come together.

Saturday morning was the inauguration service and while I meant to go to it, I was a little tired and ended up sleeping in. Saturday night was the inauguration gala, which a huge coming-together of students, faculty and alumni to schmooze, eat, relax, and most importantly, dance. At this rare opportunity to see some of my professors cutting loose, I couldn’t say no. It was as fun as I hoped, and I’m glad I was an undergrad for this awesome weekend. Throughout the whole weekend there was a feeling that this was a “once-in-quite-a-few-years” kind of weekend for our humble institution.

So I’m more or less done with my work for this year. I have a portfolio due Friday for my poetry class and a history final for next week. Needless to say, I am more or less in summer mode.

I scored an internship this summer at a small weekly newspaper in Bethlehem called The Bethlehem News. I hope to be able to take a lot of photos and learn a thing or two about newspaper layout and design. I don’t definitely have a job yet but I have a few leads. Some friends who have a rented house invited me to live with them, so I’m definitely pumped about that.

And, well, I guess that about wraps this up. This has been a great year, and thanks for reading!
