“You never know when you’re making a memory.”
–Rickie Lee Jones
This past weekend has been my favorite so far at Moravian. Between the beautiful spring weather, my wonderful friends, and all the fun activities, I couldn’t ask for anything more! On Friday, President Thomforde had his Inaugural Parade. We walked what is known as the “Moravian Mile,” the distance between North and South Campus, and then back up to North campus again. I walked with my sorority, ASA, and we were singing and cheering the whole way! We were so lucky to have such nice weather, and a lot of people lined up along Main Street to see the parade. Every Greek organization participated, as well as the majority of the athletic teams and other on-campus organizations. Everyone had a great time, and enjoyed soaking up the warm weather! I was outdoors more than I was indoors on Friday, and it felt great to be able to walk outside in a tank top, shorts, and sunglasses! After the parade there was a delicious barbeque. Following the barbeque was an amazing, fifteen minute long firework display! No one was prepared for how extensive it was going to be and everyone kept thinking it was over, only to find there was more to come. It was so much fun to sit in the quad with all my friends after a beautiful day, and watch fantastic fireworks.
Saturday was another fun day! ASA’s Spring Formal was held at night at the Iron Lakes Country Club, about a half hour away from Moravian. It was a ton of fun, and my favorite part of the night was definitely the pledge class dance! It is tradition for the new members of ASA to choreograph a dance for the spring formal, and ours went over really well! We had been practicing all week, and everyone seemed thoroughly impressed with our (sometimes goofy) dance moves.
On Sunday, the Moravian Choir performed in Carmina Burana. It was so well done, and everyone in the audience was mesmerized. I have a lot of friends in the choir, and I knew how hard they had been working to prepare for it, and boy, did it pay off. They had a full orchestra and four dancers (two dance teachers and choreographers for the MC Dancers, and two alumni), along with the Moravian Choir and a sold out house. I had goose bumps throughout the entire performance!
This coming week is Greek Week on campus, and I am looking forward to all the activities (barbeques, obstacle courses, tug of war etc). On Thursday, I will be very proud to be an invited guest and one of three Freshman Class nominees at the annual banquet of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honors Society. This is the last week of classes and this time of the semester is notorious for the finishing of projects, papers, and quizzes before finals. I have a project due, a couple of papers to write, and a lab practical for zoology that is cumulative (joy). Everyone is trying not to get too stressed, and to enjoy this beautiful weather with our friends before we are away from MoCo for an entire four months! I’m just soaking it up and trying to keep the pressure to a minimum! It will all be over much too soon.
This is my last entry of the year. I have loved sharing my freshman year with you, and I hope you all have a wonderful summer. To all you high school seniors reading this, best of luck for next year!
