And so it ends.

April 24, 2007

And so it ends. Hello, prospective Greyhounds (man am I going to miss saying that), and welcome to the final installment of the chronicles of Peter over the past academic school year. You have been with me through the good and the bad times, and I hope that over the past eight months or so, I have helped shed some light on this crazy thing we call college life, and maybe along the lines helped you come to the conclusion that MoCo was the place for you. But enough of this sentimentality: we’ve got a week to discuss.

All I can say about these couple of days is that it has been nuts, on more than one level. We were all still pretty distraught as details emerged regarding the horrible events at Virginia Tech, and the campus community—faculty, students, and staff—all gave their opinions about what they thought about it. While are hopes and prayers remain with the entire Hokie community, at least we know that people here on campus are not afraid to talk about what they personally are going through.

I must say that the rest of the week was pretty much dedicated to academia, with be holing myself up in one of the many different computer labs on campus. I also had three presentations in four days, so there was a lot of mental preparing as well. However, the weekend was a completely different story, as we all got to witness the phenomenon that was President Thomforde’s Inauguration as the latest President of Moravian College.

Where to begin. Fireworks? Check. Humungous parade? Gotcha. Seeing faculty walk by the dorms? Bingo. Although I experienced very little of the festivities first-hand (see the above paragraph) all I heard were great things, especially from the gala, which saw faculty and undergrads cutting a rug together on the same dance floor to songs from the golden age.

Sunday was a little bit quieter, but no one noticed, because the weather was arguably the best of the entire year. Pure beauty. I sat outside on a bench reading poems for class while the sun shone on me and the carpenter bees buzzed by.

And so Monday came, and so too did the academic craziness. It is a bit stressful this time of year every year, but we try to get by. This is my last go-round, so that much is enough sometimes to put that much more effort in.

With that, I come to the conclusion of this journal, my year in journals, and my academic career as an undergrad. Doesn’t it go by in a blink. As I mentioned before, I hope that this served as an aide to helping you choose your school, and that you had as much fun this year as I did. Regardless of what you are doing next year, or on what campus you’ll be on in the fall, all I hope is that you are happy, and you spend your life doing something you are really passionate about. So on that note, remember to love life, fight the good fight, stay far from timid, only make moves when your heart’s in it, and live the phrase “the sky’s the limit.” Yours truly.
