As you can see, the two main highlights in my pictures are the choir’s production of “Candide” and the Church Street Block Party! I also won the Lebensfeld prize for Best Short Story this semester. The English department had a party at Dr. Hinnefeld’s house in Bethlehem last week. A bunch of English majors and their teachers ended up having a cool time together.
The choir put on the musical, “Candide”. Even just participating in the choir, it was a lot of work! It came together really well in the end, and we received enthusiastic reviews from a lot of students, relatives, friends, and others who came to see the performance.
Yesterday, our Church Street Block Party was the perfect transition into studying for finals. We had live music, Hawaiian decorations, games, sidewalk chalk, food, and lovely company. And a random military parade, too. Out of the four bands that played, three of them were from Moravian since we have some talented musicians around Church Street. The music ranged from folksy to metal-rock to easy listening.
The Annual Spring Carnival and the yard sale behind the archives building kept us entertained too! The Spring Carnival was in the HUB this year since it rained on Friday. As usual, everything was free! Cotton candy, self-designed street signs and shorts, tarot card and palm readings, goldfish, pictures, and probably more than I can even remember. The yard sale was neat, even though I didn’t get a chance to buy anything. Quite a few of my friends brought back antiques that they bought for under $10, like postcards of old Bethlehem, furniture, and volumes of different books.
So spring is finally here! I’ve broken out the big fan in my room for those random hot, almost summer, nights. I’m pretty sure I wrote about 40 pages or so in three or four days during the last week of classes. But I’m done with most of my work now! I just have to pack, sell my books, take my astronomy final, move out, and say goodbye to sophomore year and hello to filling out study abroad applications, my first internship, and summer work in admissions.
I’ll miss Moravian, even though I’ll be working here twice a week this summer. Some of my friends are staying on campus to take a class during May Term, and a few others are staying to work on campus all summer. So we won’t all be saying goodbye, but like last year, I’ll be saying goodbye to another year. Sophomore year was definitely better than fresh(wo)man year, so I have faith that it only gets better. I feel like this summer has more potential for change, probably positive change. I’ll be in NYC for my internship and learning how to commute mostly on my own and how to write for a living, which is exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time!
