LeaderShape
Each year, The Leadership Center provides the
opportunity for a group of students to take part in the LeaderShape
Institute. The Institute is an interactive, energizing,
and unique experience that builds leadership skills. Since
1986, over 20,000 participants from all over the world have
graduated from the program. The six-day residential program
is filled with self-discovery and learning from practical experiences
that build leadership concepts and abilities. Moravian
sent students to the LeaderShape Institute in Illinois 2004,
2007, and 2009 and held campus-based institutes in 2005, 2006,
and 2008.
Questions about LeaderShape should be sent to
Katie Dantsin in The Leadership Center.
Reel Leadership
Each semester, students are invited to a series
of Reel Leadership events. A faculty member joins the
students for “dinner and movie” in The Leadership
Center, followed by a discussion of the film’s leadership
themes. This event is open to all students. Announcements
are sent out each semester and students must register to attend.
Questions about Reel Leadership should be sent to Dr. Michelle
Schmidt.
Community Grants
Community Grants are provided through a generous grant to The Leadership Center. The goal of this grant program is to create meaningful collaborations between the college and the local community that will impact student learning and development.
The Leadership Center is interested in initiatives that bring together Moravian College and the local community in a way that demonstrates mutual benefits. Many faculty and students are currently engaged with the local community. This funding opportunity provides financial support to those who could enhance their work with funding or those who wish to establish a new College-community connection.
The proposal for a community grant must be made
by a student-faculty or student-administrative staff team that
has already sought cooperation from a community partner (e.g.,
nonprofit, school, church, neighborhood association, hospital). The
project may be ongoing or may be a one-time workshop, event,
or activity. A Call for Proposals is sent out at the
beginning of each semester. Questions about Community
Grants should be sent to Dr. Michelle Schmidt.
Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program
Each year, incoming freshmen are invited to apply for an Emerging Leaders Scholarship. The eighteen students who receive the scholarship take part in a learning community pilot program, which allows students to enroll in a common Introduction to College Life course, take courses taught by the group of multi-disciplinary learning community faculty, participate in out of class sessions with faculty and students, and engage in group service projects. Emerging Leaders also receive priority consideration for the LeaderShape Institute.
Questions about the Emerging Leaders program
should be directed to Dr. Michelle Schmidt.
