Duyen Nguyen ’16, G’17, G’22

After graduating with her bachelor of science in biology in 2016, Duyen Nguyen ’16, G’17, G’22 says she returned to Moravian for her advanced degrees because she was confident in the preparation she would receive. “The education, support from staff, and relationships that I have developed at my time at Moravian are things that I cherish,” she says.

Duyen graduated from the accelerated nursing program in 2017 and worked as a bedside registered nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Lehigh Valley Health Network, taking care of patients recovering from open heart surgery. In 2022, she completed her master of science in nursing in acute care gerentology nurse practitioner. She currently works as a nurse practitioner in the cardiothoracic ICU where she started her nursing career.

According to Duyen, the simulation rooms in the Sally Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences were pivotal in her development as a health professional. She says the technology was state-of-the art and simulated real-life circumstances that prepared her for her career. “Having the ability to re-enact real-life scenarios and debrief with the professors allowed me to develop the confidence and skill set to handle emergency situations.”

“My favorite memory as a student was when I did my ‘shadowing’ for clinicals on the unit where I work now. I was a student nurse that day and everything that Dr. [Paulette] Dorney had taught me about critical care medicine clicked together. I loved the whole experience so much that I am still on that unit almost six years later, ” Duyen says.
