An Extra Green Earth Day for Moravian
This year’s April 22 commemoration of Earth Day was an extra-special event for Moravian, and not just because of the gorgeous spring weather. Before an outdoor assemblage of students, faculty members, and staff, President Thomforde signed the Talloires Declaration, a statement affirming the College’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The Declaration’s ten-point action plan to advance global environmental literacy and sustainable development, created by the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (AULSF), has been signed by approximately 350 college and university presidents nationwide. Prior to the signing, the College’s future grew even greener with the announcement by John Soden ’91 of his family’s intent to establish a $40,000 endowed fund to support Moravian’s Sustainability Task Force. A group of faculty members, staff and students, the Task Force works to promote environmental issues on campus.
