Katie Desiderio Receives Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence

Katie P. Desiderio, assistant professor of management, was voted as the winner of the 2010 Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence. Sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, the award was presented at the annual ODK Leadership Awards Banquet, held April 29, 2010.

"My job allows me to use my voice to motivate students to not only find their passion, but to embrace it," said Desiderio, who added that she is energized by student inquiries, discoveries, and "aha!" moments. Dr. Desiderio maintains an open-door policy and seeks to maximize the academic, co-curricular, and community involvement of each student.

Comments from her nomination include: "Although she may be one of the newest members of the faculty, Dr. Desiderio reflects superior teaching, enthusiasm for learning, and passion for helping students develop personally as well as professionally." "I continue to be incredibly impressed with her commitment to teaching within the classroom and beyond it. As a student, I was amazed with her ability to integrate multiple styles of teaching within the lessons."

Dr. Desiderio joined the Moravian College faculty in fall 2009. Each year, student and faculty members of the Moravian College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) recognize members of the College community at the organization's annual banquet.
